Little whistling noise

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum since I got my Audi second-hand just couple of months ago. I've got a little issue whit a slight whistling noise coming somewhere from the dashboard, but I cannot exactly pin point it for now.

It sounds weird but it it appears when I'm slowing down (but not always) or when the AC is working harder (but also not always). It is a bit confusing, that's why I wanted to ask if anyone had a similar problem before.

Thanks for your replies.

Cheers,
Nasko

hello Nasco and welcome.
You dont mention what model A2 you have but it could be a turbo whistle if you have the 1.4 diesel. My diesel, (humpy), whistles and my boys always compete to see who hears it first.
Keep us posted.

Hey Tony,

Thanks for the reply. It is a petrol 1.4, so I do not think this is the problem. I know I'm not giving a very informative description of the issue, but cannot really describe it myself. I was more worried that it could be the engine belt, or some other important rubber band under the bonnet. I would probably have it checked, but I thought to give it a try since someone might have had the same problem.

Cheers

Hi Nasko,

Does it stop when you swtich the air con / climate control fan off? If the pollen filter is blocked, or has some big bits of debris in it you can sometimes get a whistling noise from it. If it stops with the fan, then do a search for removing the pollen filter and then give it a quick brush to remove any debris.

Cheers,

David

Thanks Spike. One thing thought, seems like I do not have the rights to access the first link?!

Sorry Nasko, the thread was from a member who moved on so his posts could only be viewed by Moderators. The instructions for removing the pollen filter are here and hopefully you can open the photo links

1. Remove the cover
2. Slide the clips to the centre on the filter holder clamp, then pull the filter and holder down.
3. Remove the old filter from the supporting tray
4. Fit new filter into the supporting tray (make sure you observe the air Flow directions) these can be found on the filter side and filter tray.
5. Align these air flow directions , and your done!
6. Just fit the filter and the supporting tray back in (will only go one way dure to the retaining clip)
7. fit the filter holder clamp back and slide the retaining clips back to the edges.
8. Refit the cover

No, I still can't see the pictures, but probably it would not matter because I turned off the A/C and it is still making this noise. And the noise is not loud (so maybe therefore not troubling enough) but you could hear it in the background. A bit like a tyre squeaking on a bicycle.
