Load capacity

I have been wanting an A2 for years now and finally have the means.... only thing stopping me is that my work involves trundling around with large panels of expensive timber flooring which are 1200 x 800 x 20mm: now, if I remove one of the rear seats can I easily accommodate a number of these standing up, maybe pushed up to the rear of the passenger seat, and still happily close the hatch-back?
My previous job used 1000 x 1000 panels and these were NOT get-inable to an A2.

Hi mxpe, welcome to the A2oc
I have not physically measured the load area but from the brochure it looks like the 1200x800 panels will fit easily with the back seats removed - see attached

Cheers Spike

Thanks Spike, you're right: they fit fine, and can actually be placed across the car behind the front seats, but much more neatly can be accommodated in line with the vehicle if you take one back seat out, and the false floor in the boot. How come some have this false floor and others dont: i've seen two petrol models and they differ?

Anyway now thats done I need to find a 90 TDi SE, no bench seat, obviously, pref with Open Sky, Leather/Alcantara, Winter Pack and parking sensors...oh and pref not Silver, definitly not blue, Dk Green or that odd Met Grape/Aubergine colour would be lovely: I may have a long wait.....

Hi mxpe
The false boot floor was standard on the SE (for most model years I think) and an option on other models. It is particularly useful if the car has a spacesaver spare wheel as the wheel is out of sight and loadspace is flat. (Check out the brochures section of the forum for price and option info)
There has been some discussion on retro-fitting the false floor but it would be quite expensive as the boot side trim panels change to accommodate the new support rails for the floor panel.
Me thinks you may have more chance of a lottery win than picking up a 90 TDi with that spec and colour - but it will be fun looking.

Cheers Spike

Exactly, bench seat not clever for me but I suppose replacement paired seats could be obtained, but in that leather?

It must be a TDi as I am hoping it will qualify for London Congestion Charge exemption come October, tho' that may depend on Ken getting back in?!

Is there mush material difference 75 / 90 PS TDi or can chipping make up the lost ground?

Thanks for all your help and attention to detail!

re. "qualify for London Congestion Charge exemption"

From other postings on here, it seems that only the 90 tdi will qualify as this is the only A2 that is Euro 4 compliant.

No, any diesel from late 2003 should be EU4 compliant - look for the letters 0GG on the vehicle data sticker, which is in the service booklet or near the battery. If you see 0GE, then it's EU3

Cheers,

Mike
