locking A2 but disabling alarm?

is it posible to lock the car but not enable the alarm? I want to turn off the audible alarm sound and possibly the blinking lights too if it is doable but most urgent is turning off the audible alarm.

I hope this makes sense?

I would like to still lock the car with the key fob but the alarm will never sound and the lights will never blink no matter what.

You can press the alarm button on the drivers door B pillar to disarm the interior monitor before locking the car,but next time you unlock this will be cancelled

Yes, you can do all that you wish by making software coding changes using VCDS.

I'm vaguely intrigued by why you'd want to...

ok, thanks... I find the alarm to be a nuisance and pointless...

I have a dongle thingy that plugs into the car... and I have 1 or 2 iPhone apps that communicate to it... but I reckon these just read data from car and reset things?

I am guessing I need a special Audi/VAG device to do the settings change?

A fault-code reader ("dongle thingy") will not do the job, nor will iPhone apps. As you rightly say, they're able to read data, but can't change settings.
Many members, myself included, have a piece of software called VCDS, which runs from a laptop. It's an expensive piece of kit, but can do nearly everything that the dealerships can do. I need it for my job, as you can't retrofit optional extras like cruise control without it.

You can disable the alarm to varying degrees. You can just switch off the 'alarm set confirmations', but still leave the alarm active, or you can just disable the alarm in its entirety.

I have the alarm fully enabled on my car. Whilst I admit that it's a bit pointless, I don't find it a nuisance at all; it just sits there doing nothing. When I next use the car, I unlock it, get it and drive away. Is yours going off all the time?

Cheers,

Tom

If the alarm is being triggered find out why and sort the problem.

My thoughts exactly. I can't see how the alarm is a nuisance unless it's going off all the time. If the cause is a faulty CCCU, then switching off the alarm is just a plaster, as sooner or later the fuel cap and interior lights and electric windows and such will all start playing up. If the alarm is being triggered by the glass-break sensor in the rear window, that's easily resolved. If an intermittent issue with a microswitch is triggering the alarm, then it's only a matter of time until that problem results in the keys being locked in the car. One way or another, fixing any underlying issue strikes me as a much better course of action.

OldSchool, are you happy to talk us through your thinking?

Cheers,

Tom

ok, I have a new neighbour who is also and A2 owner... and he says that when he presses his key to lock his car my alarm goes off...

argh...

I just want to disable my alarm... it is so pointless...

can anyone do this?

thanks...

can anyone do this?
Yes, I can do this. Admittedly I am currently outside the UK, but upon my return, I can disable it should you wish.
Given that you have a 2001 A2 (based on your signature), I strongly suspect that you have a failed CCCU. This theory is supported by the following...
I have a new neighbour who is also an A2 owner... and he says that when he presses his key to lock his car my alarm goes off.
The CCCU is responsible for receiving the wireless command from the key, and for triggering the alarm. This shouldn't be happening. Many of us have multiple A2s and wouldn't expect to see this behaviour.

As I've said above, switching off the alarm is just a plaster. If the CCCU has failed, sooner or later the fuel cap and interior lights and electric windows and such will all start playing up. Even if you decide to have the alarm switched off, may I suggest that the underlying issue is fixed? I can do this for you, and it's not massively expensive.

Cheers,

Tom

Evening. Does this still work? My OSS got stuck open this afternoon and now the car alarm has gone off twice this evening on our terrace street, I think I'll go mad if it keeps going off all weekend until i can find someone to help fix the OSS ? thanks for any help as always.

@Kleynie wouldn’t be a million miles away from you and I believe is the leading OSS whisperer

The 'disable interior sensors' button on the b pillar won't resolve your problem. It allows you to lock your children or dog inside the car and still allow them to move. With the interior sensors disabled, the alarm only works when someone tries to gain unlawful access to the car or contents from outside.
