Log book

Hi

I am still in the process of buying that A2 TDI on a 04 plate. However two things firstly the owner has only had the car four weeks and he has not had the logbook sent back fromthe dvla and can't understand why I won't give him no cash until he has this, would you buy it with out.

I have ran a hpi with rac on the number plate and chassais number and that OK and DVLA have said there is no reported police activity on the car.

Secondly I said the cambelt needed doing, in the service book it says that timing belt was done at 60,000 miles. Is the timing belt the same thing as cambelt, he says he has spoke to ausi and they have confirmed this and it was the cambelt, it's just that timing belt is printed in the service book.

I really like this car and want it, however it's juat these things holding me up now.

Any advice?

:)

The timing belt is the same as the cambelt, so you can ignore that one.

The logbook is a little more worrying though and a number of questions are thrown up:

Why is the car being sold within a month of it being bought?
Why is the seller so keen to shift the car?
Are they just being stupid in not seeing why you're reluctant to part with cash before seeing the proper documents or is there something else?

I, like you, would not release any cash until I'd seen the documents in full, but as a starter, ask them for the supplement slip thay they retain when sending off the logbook.

Cheers,

MIke

Hi,
I share Skiptons concerns about such a quick resale but if we assume the seller has a genuine reason he should be able to share it with you, "saw it at auction and making a quick profit" is valid, does he have the auction receipt ?
A genuine seller will have no problem sharing his reasons with you and be able to prove it.

If you use this link it will show some very basic info about the car held by DVLA

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/Ev...ortletns=Home_en&wfevent=usefullinks_en.event

If you can check the V5 doc section 10 (to be retained by the new keeper whilst awaiting the full V5 (log book)) (a green slip) it has a doc ref no.

type the doc ref no into the page and it will add the date the last V5 was issued.

Please do not be bullied into parting with anything until you are absolutely sure

Note - even without the V5 no. you can still check how old your mates BMW 3 series is, the irish plate does not hide everything :p

Hi

Thanks for your reply, he has said today he will take it off the market until he has his log book and he will tell me first.

Also I rang the DVLA again and got a helpful guy who took the resisitration number and asked me the car age, colour, engine size and number of owners. He said all that was correct, I said the seller says he is waiting for you guys to send the log book, he said maybe so and there is no police or insurance issues reported on it.

I have also spoke to Audi about it and they said it had one owner and all the servicing checked out OK. The seller brought it from a dealer he says and that makes sense, I guess the car was traded in when it was three years old and the seller who says he used to work at a dealership got it cheap.

Thanks all for your help, I am going to get the rac to check it before I buy and I will keep you all posted and fingers crossed I will have a nice newish car for christmas;

Fingers crossed indeed - what could be a better Xmas present than a new (to you) A2?

It also looks like the story is all adding up now too so best of luck.

Cheers,

Mike
