Long 5th Gear for TDI's service

Well things move fast… just bought a JDD from a Fabia for £70!

2 hours away but that gives me an excuse to make a bit of a trip of it with the girlfriend! Lol

Yes, the longer 5th can also be fitted to the ATL's GRJ gearbox. :)

Thanks, I'm still undecided about what to do... Either the MYP box or this. My car is now close to 150,000 miles and still on the original clutch/flywheel and gearbox (as far as I am aware). I have the 3rd gear synchro issue and a noisy starter engine. Changing gear can be difficult, especially in cold conditions. Gets better once all is up to temperature.

If you’re able to commit to it financially, the (ideally PTW) six speed is in my opinion the superior option to avoid fairly large gaps between gears in terms of RPM. As a bonus, you’ll use a better / stronger starter motor as part of this solution.

If budget is more of an issue, a JDD is an excellent choice just going from Paul’s (and others’) feedback.

I believe you have a TDI90, right Thomas? The 90’s abundance of torque lower down would make the gaps between gears less of an issue I would have thought.

Yes, mine is a TDI90

Would the PTW or JDD box also have the side benefit of replacing the notorious dual mass flywheel that plagues the TDi90? I've been through 3 clutches over the years and when the time comes for another one, I may bite the bullet this time around.
