Longlife Service Due whats required?

Hi, my A2 1.6 FSI is due a longlife service in 1300 miles. Its an 03 plate with approx 61.5k on the clock. It had its coolant, belts and rollers changed 1 year ago. What additionally to the longlife service will also need doing at this age and mileage? I will be getting the brake fluid changed as this was last done approx 16 months ago. What price should I expect to pay at a main dealers?

Just booked mine in for the LongLife service & MOT.

Looking at the CamBelt change as I don't think its ever been done (X Reg, 37k miles)

The lady who answered my call said that the water pump should be changed at the same time - another £100. Does that sound right, should it be changed at the same time?

Absolutely - it must be changed really, but £100 is a bit steep (about £50 too steep actually).

I know that I 'could' get this cheaper, but I just don't have the skills to do it myself, or the time to drive off to some of the dealers mentioned in these forums. I'm thinking that at least the Audi dealer will do the job right (having red the CamBelt articles elsewhere here) I just have to accept it will add a few quid to the deal.

Just tell them

Just tell them you've had a look about/ring round and and the part is £x, so why are they charging £100.

The exchange price (that is the price for a part when they keep the old one) is £53 for the water pump - if there wasn't an exchange, that goes up to £90, but they will undoubtedly keep (and refurbish) your old one.

There's no labour charge too, only a little extra charge for new coolant (about a tenner).

Like Skipton, I also thought this was a rip-off but when adding up the cost of an exchange waterpump (£53) 3 to 4 litres of Audi antifreeze (guess at £15+) and 15min - 30min labour to drain the system, dispose of old antifreeze then top up the system, it sounds about right. (Can't believe i'm sticking up for a main dealer here)

Have to say that I kind of agree.

However I have an old school friend (rediscovered through facebook) that as it happens works at the same garage, so I'm waiting to see if he can pull any favors... fingers crossed.

Had a call back from the garage reporting on the work needing to be done, apparently my front disks are knackered, "80% worn and corroded", who knows... anyway quoted £319.34 for the job.

I baulked a bit and mentioned that the Audi website offers the job (pads) for £99.00 Why over 3 time the cost? The garage said that they would get back to me.

Had a quick look online, found "Audi pads" for about £60.

Them had a call back saying that they would do it for £99 + £75.
Deal done.

That's 50% off the original quote... I get what you mean about "Stealers"!

They also offered to change my rear indicator bulbs (apparently the orange had burnt off and so were practically clear) they were asking for £32 for that... I declined the offer, hoping I can do it myself – they're easy to fit aren't they?

Also my new floppy wiper has turned up in the post, no more judder!

Yes, very easy. The manual says take it to a dealer, but how to do it is self-evident and it should take only a few minutes.

Had a call saying it's all done a ready to pick up, in the event they changed the bulbs after all – with no actual charge for doing so, just £4.00 for the bulbs.
