Loss of clutch pressure (after a right hand bend!) 2005 TDI SE 85k miles

Sorry, I just re-read your message - you clearly stated already that you fitted a "genuine new clutch slave cylinder"

Hi Sid,

If the above quote is in reply to my post, to clarify, I fixed the issue by fitting genuine brand-new clutch slave cylinder, as opposed to buying a second-hand unit.
Personally I only buy genuine items like this, as there tends to be less hassle.

My issue was approx. 2 years ago and I've had no further problems since.

Cheers
Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

I'm waiting on a price for the part with fitting and yes, I'd always go with genuine Audi (within reason) and always new (within reason).

Regards and thanks again.

Sid

Has this got the original gearbox?

Genuine Audi part will be FTE, availible from cp4l for about £35

Thanks - I assume so - I've only had the car about a year (putting circa 3k miles on it) and there's no paperwork for a gearbox replacement.

Sorry i meant from the point of view has it been upgraded to 6 speed.

My ford galaxy mk2 tdi (same as sharan/alhambra) has a gearbox repair in the form of a shim placed at the end of the input shaft and stops the clutch hydraulics losing pressure and needing manual lifting/pumping.

I doubt this is applicable to you and the A2 but struggle to apply any logic to your issue!

The clutch slave is so easy to change, £20 cash would do it in a garage i would think!

Did you say that you have to manually pull your pedal back up? It sticks down?

Have you checked your mats aren’t running against it? Mine was slightly pressing and on a firm stop would slide forward a tiny bit and this would rub on the clutch pedal stopping it from coming back up without a tug.

I may have misinterpreted your issue but worth a check. Took me an hour to work out mine!

Thanks, but why would that pivot bearing issue cause the clutch pedal drop only after right hand turn do you think?
g force could shift the lever if it's not seating properly... I don't know but I thought it was worth taking note of incase of the eventual deconstruction of the clutch. The problem is strange, the solution may not be what first comes to mind.

Understood and thanks.

Yes, I have to pull the lever up with my foot and as it always happens on a hard right turn, it doesn't seem like a footwell/mat/pedal problem

Hi, Did you ever sort the problem? I'm having to lift the pedal up with my toe to make the clutch feel normal. Am wondering if this would be caused by the actual clutch I fitted rather than a hydraulic issue.
Cheers
Robert

Hello Robert - no, not resolved - the overall bill I faced (partly related to this clutch issue) was too great. I sold the A2.

Yes, my bargain A2 TDI, cost me £1100 in MOT repairs last year, and was heading towards another £1k a year later - this clutch pressure issue was part of that looming repair bill.
Unfortunately, my A2 track record in terms of reliability has been pretty poor - I had an FSI about 15 years ago and that was a money pit too.
It's a shame as I really like these cars (you don't tend to buy them twice otherwise).

Sidbo, before you sold the car, did you get the slave cylinder changed and still have the same issue? I own an a5 and I am having exactly the same issue as you but instead of it being when turning, it happens after a hill start changing from 1st to 2nd. Just debating wether to replace the slave or not.

Good evening,

Welcome to the Club. I notice you joined us to ask this very question to this specific member. If you tap on the member susername:

You’ll notice that @Sidbo was last online that same day the the post was added (12 Mar 2020). I can only but guess that after the A2 was sold that this member stopped logging into the website.

You therefore may not get a response.

Fortunately there are plenty of mechanically minded members who will be more than happy to assist if they can.

Kind regards,

Tom

Further to Tom's answer, I suggest you send a forum PM to @Sidbo asking your question. The default setting with PMs is to send a copy to the forum registered email address and unless either has changed he will see it in his regular email.
