has anyone had at one time tyre pressure loss for no reason from the rear or front tyres and if so why is this happening,
At the moment i have one rear tyre that keeps losing 3-6 psi every couple of weeks.
Is there anything i can do and how much would it cost to have rectified.

Many Thanks

I had the same problem when we first picked our A2 up, every week they were about 3psi down I kept an eye on it for about 6 weeks and nothing they seem to be holding pressure now, didn't do a thing to them except put air in.

You could try over-inflating them for a week (say full load + 2 psi) and drive normally (that should be carfully)

Could be a faulty valve. You haven't put any fancy dust caps (metal/silvr/gold etc) on?

no
i have'nt put anything fancy on as valve covers but i will check out the tightness of the tyre valve itself and also try infalting it a little over the normal psi to see what happens there.

thanks

Speaking as someone who drove 10-miles on a flat (rear) tyre ...
...and yes the cornering was apalling, but I'd only had the car 2-hours, so thought that's what A2's were like!
Tyre did survive reasonably well and was only slighly chewed up on the sides. After an inspection, I did risk re-inflating it and drove it (slowly) to a tyre depot. A normal 70-profile tyre would never have handled this treatment!

Try to find out where the air is actually coming from.

Get an old pump spray cleaner from the kitchen and refill with water & few drops of washing-up liquid. Shake a bit.

Spray it carefully over the valve, then around the tyre-bead to rim interface, inside and out. Look for tiny bubbles and foaming. If difficult to see bubbles, try it at night with a good torch.

If nothing found, it could be a simple nail or screw in the tread. often they can be hard to see, especially when ground flush to the tyre. I had a nail in another car that lost pressure only over a 2-month period. I actually never took it out!
To look at tread, Methodically observe an area then spray it and look again. Mark area covered with chalk if required, then roll the car forward, about 1/6th of turn each time and repeat.

If all this is done carefully, you WILL find the leak!!

Thanks guys
tried what you said and found a 9 inch nail in the rear tread and it was only allowing a small ammount of air out every so often Audi tyre fitter took some time to locate it and the tyre had previously had a puncture in the same area of the tyre so the tyre had to be written off as being unsafe.
Apparently their are no mitchelan tyres available at the moment 3 month backlog, so managed to get dunlop tyre fitted at a cheaper cost.
The A2 feels different to drive now all the tyre pressures are the same.
Seems very sensitive to anything being changed on the car even just having a slightly lower tyre pressure in any one wheel and i can feel slight differences in the drive.

Cheers for all your help.

Andy.
