MAP-sensor

The MAF sensor (mass air flow meter, or air mass sensor) is inline with the big air intake pipe that's on the drivers side of the engine bay. It has an oval connector with around 4 wires coming off it.

Cheers,

Mike

PS It's held in with 2 big clips.

Here's a photo of my webasto but you can see the inlet pipe in front of it and on the far right of the picture(under the master cylinder) you can just see the electric connector Mike mentioned in his post

Can anyone point me to where the MAP-sensor is in an A2 1.4 TDI 2001?

Thanks

If you really mean the MAP (and not the MAF) sensor then its either located in ther end tank of the charge air cooler or the pipework connecting to the CAC. The attached pic shows (only just) the connector to the MAP on my May 2001 tdi

Thank you all for your prompt response.

I am trying to resolve my car's sudden loss of power whilst doing 70mph. This has happened a few times and makes motorway driving a nervous affair.
Having read most threads, it appears the MAP sensor could be at fault.

Any further advise would narrow my possible solution

Does the car go into limp home mode and requires the engine to be switched off and on to reset ?
Have you checked for fault codes?

Cheers Spike

Thanks Spike
Yes, at first, I did have to switch off. The issue came back afterwards and seems to be irregular. The ABS and another light came on at first and the car felt like it had little power. Recently, it is just a sudden loss of power, no lights.

The power loss you describe has many of the symptoms of a split aftercooler core or hoses. In the early stages of failure, the splits can open up as the turbo boost increases which causes a sudden loss of pressure.

Spent the day cleaning MAP and MAF. A drive on the motorway replicated the sudden hestitation in power

I will check the hoses but if it is the split aftercooler core what is the solution, a new intercooler!
