Mark,s Mega Project

Also today I had my newly refurbished wheels and tyres fitted at National Tyres and Autocare in Plympton, Plymouth, I have no affiliation to them but I was extremely impressed with the time and care taken fitting my new tyres and then fitting them to the car, the chap kept cleaning the face oView attachment 80640f the wheels with a rag and was very careful when putting them on the machine and laying them down.
Any I did a few pics for you all to enjoy.

So so pleased with the results, definitely worth the time and effort. The car now holds the road so much better and I'm not being shifted about on the motorway anymore. One very happy chap.
Some amazing progress there Mark,

Brilliant results. Keep it going.

Kind regards,

Tom

Looking good Mark. Seeing as you can paint, I’d suggest painting the side strips that run along the car between the door and the side sills in silver. It’s been done a few times and looks great.

I was thinking the same thing Steve, just need to work out how to remove them.

Evening Mark,

To remove the plastic strips along the bottoms of the doors:

If it indeed these that you’re on about, they are held on with a small Phillips type screw at each end:

Once the screws are removed you’ll notice that strips are still adhered to the door with a rather good quality double sided tape. You’ll need to weaken the adhesive of the tape with your chosen product then slowly pull them away from the door. From memory (so could be wrong here) there is a metal strip inside the plastics strips so try not to bend these items during removal.

Hope that helps, no expert at this as have only done it once before for Paul @greywolfhound (I think).

Kind regards,

Tom

That's spot on mate, thank you for the heads up, I will give it a go when the paint arrives.

You did indeed supply me a couple of years ago and very grateful I was ??

Both the silver paint to colour match the wing mirrors and the red paint to colour match the bodywork are on order, as soon as they arrive and the weather is good enough I will be stripping parts and getting crazy with the spray cans, hopefully in time for the south west get together. Watch this space folks.....

When you say loom..... is it not just a straight steering wheel swap from one to the other?

Yes it is, but for some unknown reason some sellers take the airbag loom off the airbag and send it without. To fit a TT/Sport steering wheel as a bolt on job you need the whole wheel complete with loom. It's plug and play then.

**DISASTER** When I decided to fit the little red springs for the auto boot opening hack the hinge going into the roof decided to snap, I now have no use of my boot and I'm guessing I will need a new one and then pay someone to fit it, total nightmare!!!!!

Just been to look at the setup on mine as it’s not something I’ve ever paid attention to. It looks to unbolt. Has it ripped the nut out of the boot lid completely?

Mark, so sad to see this - I've never seen a hinge go before ?

The bad news is, to replace it, that's going to need the interior at the rear of the car from the floor upwards to come completely out in order to allow access under the roof lining, probably the roof liner itself will have to come out.

But the good news is
1) You don't need to be hugely fussy about the colour match of the replacement
2) There's a very good chance that @A2Steve can sort you out with one for next weekend (accessing it is not such an issue on a breaker) and
3) You're already booked to see the man who knows exactly how to get the interior out to replace the hinge on your car when you come to see @timmus at my place next month.

If it had to go, it couldn't have picked a better time really :)

I have to say though, that's now completely dissuaded me from trying the auto-boot hack - I had been wavering as I wasn't really sure it was going to enrich my life!

Steve, it's the actual hinge on that side not the gas strut. Do you think you'll be able to get one (or even both) off your breaker as I suggested above?
