Mark,s Mega Project

Next job will be refurbishing the wheels myself, I will be taking my time with them but I will have pics of the refurb as it comes along.
On returning home a nice little package was waiting for me....

This job will be done before the wheels, hopefully this week.

Would be interested in knowing more about this and a link please :)

After the last few parts arrived in the post today I cracked on with fitting the new steering wheel and gear stick kit, now looks much smarter and the feel of both is so much better.

It's starting to transform in the way I like but there is still plenty more to do. After Sunday's South West meet and greet I should have some parts from @A2Steve to fix the boot hinge and some trim replacement items.

Was the TT shifter a straight swap, have bought the wheel to fit and been looking at the shifters

Very easy to replace the shifter, you will need to screw into the plastic but it's not that much of a job. The TT shifter feels much nicer than the SE Leather one but that's just my preference.

Now fitted with tt aluminium pedals to match the bespoke footrest. Looking much better I'd say.

Nothing major today but it's still an upgrade, so I've completed the set with xenon fog light bulbs, now everything matches.

Tomorrow the car is finally getting it's new clutch, thankfully the garage is picking him up on their tow truck and delivering him back to me when the job is done. Another expensive fix I won't have to worry about for some time I hope.

Very well said Mark,

The community spirit on here is simply amazing.

Ive had similar assistance many times and it’s really appreciated.

What a great Club we are all part of.

Kind regards,

Tom

So Rex now has a brand new clutch and my word what a difference, I stalled it as soon as I lifted the clutch because the bite was immediate, before it was at the top of the pedal travel and now it's instant. On the full service I decided to have done at the same time the thermostat housing attached to the cylinder head fell apart due to the plastic becoming so brittle, so I've had a new one from audi ordered to be fitted on Monday or Tuesday next week. That was one expensive day but the clutch was completely knackered and now I don't have to worry about it for some time.

I got my clutch done for the first time at about 220,000 miles. Stalled every other take off for about a week! In a diesel! Then I got used to it.

220k? wow mine made it to 110k and it had worn into the supporting studs and marred the clutch bearing, totally knackered hence it would not stay in gear. Now I've spent another £91 for the thermostat housing I'm skint as skint can be.

A quick update of work to be done. I've decided on a cat back stainless exhaust system to be completed by long life exhausts in Plymouth, I'm just waiting for a return email giving me a booking date for the work to be done. Watch this space.

Just make sure they put surge protection on your battery.

Me and another person I know have been there in the past, had the exhaust fitted and then nothing……the car was dead.
Car was dragged to the main dealers who diagnosed ecu failure on both cars. Longline both time eventually paid out on it but it took a little while to get them to admit their error

Hi Mark,
I’ve had 2 cars fitted with exhausts by this company
One in South Wales which was a pleasure to see being made & then to drive on my Audi 100 avant which was made on a computerised mandrel bending machine for smooth gas flow etc & the other on an Audi 100 v6 avant at a Surrey branch which was the total opposite, sections cut & tig welded together & banged & rattled under the car.
Hope that is of help.
Keith.

Longlife is a franchise operation and the quality of work varies significantly between different franchisees. When I spoke to Longlife in 2018 ahead of having a full stainless system built, they were happy to quote me for a new system, but flatly refused to give me any information on the internals of their silencers or their welding methods.

If you're planning to use them, I can only suggest a degree of caution. Before agreeing any work, visit their Plymouth operation and inspect their work. In particular, find out how exactly they build their silencers, since you're at risk of ending up with a cheap baffled design.

It's best to seek alternative quotes from other builders within reach of you, since independent builders are normally significantly cheaper. Cost was not an issue when I had my system built, I simply wanted the best, but Longlife's quote was over twice the price I ended up paying.

Powerflow are the other major franchise operation in this field here in the UK, and like Longlife they are evasive when it comes to the details but happy to provide similar inflated quotes.

Thanks for the heads up, I've had two systems done by these guys before and never had any issues, I can only say good things about them and their work. Better to be safe than sorry though?

I am informed that Infinity Exhausts are the reliable "go to" people. Good Luck, I think your car looks great.
I've used infinity in the past for a couple of different cars when I lived in Bristol, a bit far to go for the work but they are very good.
Long life in Plymouth have made two systems for me in the past and one had a sport cat as well, they are not the cheapest but the quality of work at this particular franchise has been spot on. This will be my third system with them and I have no issues with them carrying out the work. I have also had £50 off as a return customer so I'm not complaining.
