At the risk of sounding like a complete fool, but could some kind soul inform me what the arrowed component is on the attached photos. It seems to have developed a leak at the joint & I could do with knowing what it is. :confused:

That's the fuel pump.

On certain A2s it was replaced as there was a recall on the bolts that hold it together and they were liable to stretch causing a leak.

However, in my experience, most of the leaks that look like they're from the pump are actually from the rocker cover rubber gasket behind it.

The first cause (leaking pump) is expensive to repair, unless covered by the recall. The second is cheap, but getting the cover off is a real pain.

Have a look on VOSA website. From memory, it was all diesels from early 2004 to early 2005, but the website will have a VIN range.
 
Had a look as you suggested but it doesn't seem to cover my car. I think I will get it looked at to see if/where it is leaking from. I may need to arrange that visit to see you sometime soon Mike!!
