Member register for VCDS scans?

Was wondering what you guys thought of my latest idea. I have recently had the EML (Engine Management Light) illuminate and then go off again a bit later in my TDi90. As I don’t have a laptop or a VCDS scanner, I thought it would be really useful and helpful if there was a list of members that would be willing to do free or cheap scans for those of us that don’t have the necessary equipment. I’m sure there are differences in the equipment and functionality that can be used for this, so it would also be very useful to know what these are and what they can or can’t do.

Has it possibly been suggested and done already? If so could someone please point me in the right direction.
Happy to know what the consensus is. ?
Many thanks in advance.
Drew.

There used to be a map that had members on it with VCDS (vag-com). I never got it to work and it appears to now not exist.

Problem with that is it needs to be kept up to date, that either requires members and or admin input assuming the coding available can support it.

There is nothing worse than thinking someone in your area has VCDS only to find out it was the basic version or worse they no longer have it !

I'd always be happy to do a scan for anyone local. Can't promise much on the more advanced features, but pulling / clearing codes etc is O.K.

Full VCDS Unlimited.

Heathfield area, East Sussex.

Hello Drew,

This might be the thread you’re after. I cannot say how up to date it is but certainly worth a scan through and send some PMs to members offering their services in your area.

Kind regards,

Tom

I doubt it comes as any surprise to anyone that I've got full-fat VCDS. I'm based in the Lancaster area and am happy to do free scans and such for club members.

Cheers,

Tom

A register of members prepared to offer a free scan to other members is something worth pursuing I think. I don.t mind offering to maintain such a register if admin find this acceptable, I have ides on how it would work.

I very much hope it would be like a scene from a WWII control room: huge map table, different coloured flags on top of model A2's.

'Incoming Sir!, an FSi with serious misfire in green region!'

'Thanks Jenkins, sending @timmus Squadron in now' (wobbles improbable moustache). Shoves A2 along a bit ...

Anyway, I like this plan (even if we don't get the big table): a good way of putting names to faces and spreading some help around.

I have another idea that would dove-tail into this perfectly which I'll float on another thread in the next week or so.
