Mid-life refresh. What changed?

Hi, this is my first post !

The wife's petrol 2005 model 1.4 Special Edition in Ebony Black arrives next week purchased from a well know non-franchised dealer in Iver, South Bucks. It's our second A2 - a silver Y reg 1.4SE made way for a very nice A4 Avant T SE Multi back in 2003 but times change and we've decided to downsize to the only other car she's prepared to be seen in.

The 15" special edition wheels just didn't cut it though so we've treated ourselves to some 16" SE style wheels from EliteDirect.com. There's no spacesaver so I'll be investigating the option of using one of the 15's as a spare (have seen the links explaining how to mimic the factory spare anchoring in the boot). If it works I can see myself offering the other three for sale to any takers from this site.

I'm aware that during 2003 or 2004 the A2 went through a mid-life refresh and things like the fuel tank size changed (from 35 litres to 42 I think). I just wondered if anyone was aware of the full list of changes? Our new arrival is the newest spec and I'm curious to know what other changes to expect. Thanks, great site btw

Glad to see you've seen the light and gone back to a quality Audi!

The mid-life changes mainly revolved around the fuel tank change and the front grille changing from smooth to slatted.

There were various other ongoing upgrades though - the widespread introduction of CAN bus in 2002 was one of these and of course the introduction of the 90PS TDi engine in 2004.

The aluminium trim was released for all models (not just SE) in 2001/02 and the door pulls were changed to brushed aluminium from polished at the same time.

That's the main jist of things, apart from an audio unit upgrade, also in 2001.

Cheers,

Mike

......and the screen washer jets which changed from the fairly useless 'mist spray' to the much improved jet spray pattern.
