Miss-fueled

Had a senior moment a few days ago.
It's not as if I had only recently changed -- I have been running on diesel for the past 15+ years. No heavenly body or other plausible distraction I can reasonably blame either   .

Did not even realize it until the car came to a halt about 20 miles later right in the middle of a country road Z-bend. Took a while before I realized I had miss-fueled.
The AA's priority these days seems to be preaching the 'elf n' safety' mantra rather then providing a speedy support, so got a pall of mine to tow me home.

Next day I drained all the fuel (nearly a tank full) via the filter and replaced both. So far all is well and it seems I have got away with the proverbial murder. :p
I do, however, wonder if I should be aware of any possible problems showing up at some later date?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Regards
Mike

Should be ok - my mate did this to his audi a3 2005 a few months ago - i drained the petrol out, then flushed with 5 litres of diesel and filled up with diesel - started with easystart and its been fine since.

Sister did it twice to my mk3 golf - that was fine too!

Sorry to hear of you little accident ;) happens to many of us all at some point!

When I did mine the garage said that a cold engine and a full tank of petrol helped to bring the vehicle to a stop before any/too much damage was done. Conversely a warm engine and part diluted diesel can make the vehicle run further and without the full lubricating properties of diesel can do damage. Don't know how true this is but I've not noticed any difference since.

Cost me £75 couple of years ago from a local independent garage on a Saturday afternoon and the breakdown service (ETA) said that it was a good deal. From memory I think that included £20 disposal charge, so £55 quid for a tow and a good 45 mins work was a great deal. I was relieved at I was driving to London the next day.

You got it much cheaper ;) So here's hoping you are OK too.

hi mike
i bought a fuel angel for the wives polo a few months ago, does what it says, it will only take a diesel nozzel they are now £39.95 inc p&p, and easy to fit, you can buy it direct from them via web site.

I did the same thing in 2001 with a freelander Td4 auto. Drove about 5mls and noticed it playing up. Limped into a garage who drained the tank (full) and put some diesel in, off I went (£71 + a full tank poorer). Car been in same ownership since I sold it a year later for a A2 Tdi and still running like new. Moral being Im sure yours will be fine. Cheers Colin.
