'Missing' - 1.4tdi - at 3000 revs

Can anyone help? Just started happening after a diesel fillup. I noticed the engine misses a beat or two when the engine is put under load, i.e. rapid acceleration between 3-4000 revs, or when going up a hill.

I tried putting my foot down to blow it through which seemed to improve it slightly but last night it was doing it again. Everything is fine until you put the engine under load but it doesn't really affect the performance, or do it on normal local driving.

Could it be dirty diesel? This hasn't happened before and only noticed since I filled up at Sainsburys on Sunday, admittedly from a lowish fuel tank (it wasn't in the red, just touching, and the light wasn't on)

Any thoughts gratefully received.

What Model?

If it is a TDi-90, this is getting to be a common problem.

Turbos and split intercooler hoses.

I had the same issue a couple of years ago and when I removed the DIESEL FILTER it was black and slimy and gungy and filthy. I fitted a new filter (£15) and it has never missed a beat since. I put that down to somebody's filthy fuel tanks at a filling station.

HTH.

Cheers,

If it was my car I'd change the fuel filter (unless its been done recently) and run a diagnostic scan. If the scan shows up any injector related problems then it could be a faulty injector wiring loom. (the loom is about £50 plus fitting)
If any turbo boost faults are flagged up then it could be a split hose or aftercooler core or possibly the turbo variable vanes sticking as Design-Time indicated. If it is a turbo boost pressure related problem then as it gets worse the car may go into limp home mode under load. Switching the ignition off and on usually resets it until the engine is working hard again.
Let us know how you get on and keep us up to speed with any new symptoms or fault codes if you have it scanned

Cheers Spike
