mixing 507 oil

Hi,
10000 miles ago I changed the oil in my 1.4TDI. I used an oil by comma that met the 507 spec. I still have about 3/4 of a litre left in the 5 litre container.
Last week I got the car serviced and forgot to ask for the comma oil and now I have about 3/4 of a litre of quantum 507 (good god that quantum was pricey).

If the car needs topping up is it ok to use up the comma?
Can i pour the remaining quantum into the comma bottle so i dont have to have two bottles?

I guess basically Im wondering if it is ok to mix different brands of 507 oil? I'll do the next oil change myself with the comma as I can get it much cheaper than quantum, after which I'll be wondering if its ok to use up the remaining quantum.

Thanks
Nick

Personally I would only mix them if you are not on the long life service regime.
Different brand oils, even though they meet the VW 507 spec, are almost certain to have different additive packages so its not worth taking any risk by keeping the 'special brew' in the engine for a couple of years.

This question reminds me of a true incident in WW2 in north africa. A friend of my father was out on patrol when the engine in their truck started leaking a lot of oil. It was apparent if they simply carried on the engine would seize long before they got back to camp. The ONLY liquid they had was water. after discussion they voted to put the water into the engine oil and by doing so they kept the engine from seizing and got to safety. In other words whilst it is important to use the correct oil where possible it is all a matter of fine differences and rather than run an engine dry ANY oil is better than no oil.
