Looking to replace my Audi concert 2 stereo with something more modern. Something that looks "standard"?
I need Bluetooth as a bare minimum. CD player would be nice, as would usb slot.
Needs to be single-din, direct replacement if possible. Red illumination.
The car is a 51 plate petrol AUA if that makes any difference? Not Bose.
Any suggestions would be helpful,!

Stick the concert 2 and get yourself a Bovee unit to stream and Bluetooth through it. Everything else never seems worth the grief.

The concert skips while playing CDs, and the stickers over the buttons are peeling off. Time for a change..

I replaced mine with a Sony MEX-N5200BT. It has CD, USB and BT and with the 5000 series you can set the display colour so its set as Red to match the car. I mainly use it with a 4G tablet mounted on the central console via bluetooth to stream spotify or digital radio (and google maps etc..)

Appreciate you want to change. But I have to say that a properly working / looking Concert 2 is a wonderful thing - I would do as Erling says as nothing else works as well and I haven’t seen anything else that is an upgrade in the looks department that functions as well as OE.

Just my tuppence.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this has excellent SQ and you can keep your existing head unit, I would not go for a slightly cheaper without MIC as you can answer your phone using the headunit in my case Concert 1
works really well with podcasts spotify bbc sounds etc

Unfortunately, the head unit needs replacing as the cd keeps skipping..
In that case I’d find another one and do as suggested, seriously there’s nothing available that’s as good unless you go through a lot of hassle. For starters you’ll lose the rear speakers as you’ll have to run new wires to them as the orhas a unique amplifier to power them, plus you won’t find power cables for the retro fit as the original is can bus driven.
Seriously, it’s just not worth it.

The only brand that I'd consider is the Blaupunkt Classic range.
I think the rear line outs will run the rear amp OK. The power wiring is a pain, and the radio will only work with the ignition on.
There may be an option to use an output from the CCCU rather than the ignition, that would allow you to use the radio without the ignition on. I'd think there's a member or two who can help.
The biggest problem is the antenna/aerial. The Diversity controller needs the feedback from the Concert to work properly, and no radio, other than the OEM Concert has that.
They do look nice though. Quite a capital outlay, as only the top of the range has a red display.

Whilst it's a good write-up of a solid aftermarket option - I really think the OE head unit looks much better to my eyes Mac - I would be interested to know the route he goes down if the OP decides to do anything other than just replace the head unit he has with a fully functioning Concert

I think it all depends on how much of an "originisti" you are. The Concert does look "right" of course, and I still have mine, with Bluetooth and hands free, etc.
I'd still consider one of the Blaupunkt units, albeit without the CD.
The whole antenna/aerial issue is my reservation. If I fitted a posh replacement, it'd have to be DAB, and I'm not keen on the stick on things.
A replacement for the Diversity, which multiplexes the four FM rear screen antennas, and has a wider band signal amp, to support DAB would, probably see me go aftermarket.
It's unlikely such a gizmo will appear though.
Mac.

Are there any radio boffins on here? It may be possible to connect the four rear screen antennas in parallel, but I have no such knowledge to comment.
That would suit FM reception, I think.
No idea about DAB, would different antenna amplifiers be required? Each rear screen antenna has it's own amp, and I'm guessing, those amplifiers don't match DAB frequencies.
All the above may be waffle, someone with the knowledge might clarify.
Mac.

OE is essential with these cars. It is not just the head unit, but the entire system become extremely agitated with incorrect aftermarket gear.

Erling is absolutely right in advising a replacement Concert 2 and so on.

Best of luck.

OE all the way for me too. Have never seen a correct looking aftermarket stereo in an A2 yet

Well, I would find this totally acceptable, but couldn't justify the price.
It's period correct, and would not look out of place, to my eye, anyway.
Technically, definitely a challenge to fit, yes. Built in mic, Bluetooth etc, DAB, just the job.

You could try a CD cleaner which has little carbon brushes which cleans the lens as it spins. This often is the cause of bad tracking.
