More frustration with rear seat locating pin, spring things!

Hello,
Please put me out of my mysery! I have read the threads on the rear seats not fitting, rattels, etc.

But one more time for me, newby........ I can not get the pins to go back into the holes and detent over the ball bearings. The springs and cups are currently resting on the ball bearings. I have slammed, bashed, knelt on, sat on and even tried to jump on (six foot 2, so bumped my head a bit!) I have tried lifting the handles on the base of the seat etc.

Please help before I torch the thing!:mad:

P.s. nothing actualy looks damaged.

I'm having a similar problem with mine.

But I have a bench seat which has only engaged on the one side and now it won't go down or up but is stuck on the one side in the bolt upright position.

It appears the other side has dropped below the engaging pin and i've tried lifting it to go back in but it won't budge at all.

I've trawled through the seat posts and the manual and had no success.

I've had to go to Audi and they were about as much use as a chocolate fire guard, and where only interested in booking it in, and weren't even prepared to come and have a look before booking it in.

Do you put your knee on the back off the folded seat above where the handle is or further forward near the head restraint, to add the required pressure? Also do the seats need to be locked folded first, as I don't think I can get it to lock in the folded position.

Much thanks from the newbys.

Hi et-too.

Kneeling on the front edge will give you a bit more leverage. The seat will only lock folded when you reset the pins because the mechanisms are linked. Thats what I was saying in the thread you were redirected to. Your seat is stuck in limbo.

What I did was lean on the front edge of the backrest (near the head restraint) whilst pulling hard on the lever. I though it was going to break but the locking pins did reset one at a time and when that happens the backrest should then be locked forwards. All should then be good. Press the seat down into the floor which should now be easy. Then just lean on the front of the backrest again. You should here a slight click as it unlocks then it should lift up into the upright position.

If you do sort it, next time you fold the seat just press down on the front edge of backrest as you pull the floor handle. This will help the backrest to lock forward, should stop the seat pins getting stuck again and you might find the handle is easier to pull too.

Hope this all makes sense.

Most excellent advice. It worked and away we go! Shame that Mr Audi didn't explain this anywhere. Ah well now I can move on and try to fix the rest of the cars problems!

I've managed to sort my bench seat out as well

Or should i say it has somehow sorted itself out (I don't know how) I just lifted the 2 handles this morning and it slid on back into position. I think I'll get some vasolene on the plates to stop future problems.

Having jumped up and down on it and generally got quite abusive towards it something must have given I guess.

Thanks for the help and guidance anyway on here, I'll never know if it helped or not but thanks anyway:D

What is the little clip that is the first thing that touches the car seat bracket, the tiny clip that you can move up/down for? I notice that one of my rear seats doesn't have one, took a little more time to get the seat back in but nothing more than normal just wondering what the little black clip actually does?
