Here's a long shot question but I'd guess a detailer will have experience.

I've got a pet hate of rusty hubs on brake discs . I've bought coated ATE discs but they're starting to corrode. Scottish winter too much for them.

I'm wondering if there's a recommended product to coat the hubs? I'll rub them down and refinish when I change back to the summer wheels in April but would appreciate any experience of this before using spray hammerite as normal ( usually good for 6 months in my experience. )

Hi Murdo
I assume you mean the hub and disc edges..LOL
Yes...You can keep the rust at bay with some rust inhibitor (Kurust) and paint after with some heat resistant paint/engine paint
Hammerite is OK on Calipers (Off a Race Track) but will not do so well on discs ...They can get too hot
Have a look too at Bilt Hamber Rust Products...They are very very good...but read the spec carefully as there may be a temperature to consider

Good luck

Ok Chris; simple one mate - what are your views on the spray on waxes? Do they do anything above a quick and light buff and what would you expect the duration to be; a week, two? I have waxed my A2 using Autoglym HD wax, but tend to use Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer for expediency. I wash the car in Mequiars Gold Glass, so I guess the main question is, is the Quik Detailer composite offering anything above the content of the Gold Class shampoo?

Cheers,

Darren

Hi Chris,

My wife's A2 interior needs a proper valet, are you ever around the Staines area?

It has leather seats (cream "Twist") and they need to be refreshed. The interior panels were quite dirty when we got the car and we had it valeted by "Professionals" but I was disappointed with their results.

The leather could do with connolising ideally.

Cheers

As a valetist, he is never going to be around the Staines area Steve!

Sorry...

I'll get my (clean) coat...

:D

Hi Darren
Spray waxes have their place, but used on their own, durability is poor
I would only recommend using one if refreshing an existing wax coat.
In this respect, your use of Megs QD is perfect for prolonging the life of the HD Wax
Megs Gold Class Shampoo adds very little and contains something to give the shampoo some slickness to avoid marring when washing...Thats all

Chris

Thanks Chris. Sorry for not acknowledging your response sooner; first log in since I posted that/on returning from holiday.

Appreciate your advice; it mirrors my layperson understanding. I do love the Meguiars Gold Class mind; regardless of the lack of waxing properties.

Hi everyone
I've not been here much recently, so apologies
A recent hand operation has prevented me doing any Valeting & Detailing at all...but I'm now on the mend
Still have a question?
Please ask
Also, I'm in West Yorks and you want to bring your car to me, please PM me?

HI Chris, any hints as to what to use to clean the door cards on my motor? My daughter has managed to put a load of foundation finger prints all over the door card and I don't know what to use to get them off......don't want to ruin the front door cards trying to clean them.
Thanks in advance.

A diluted solution of all purpose cleaner sprayed on and wiped off should see it off
If they're Leather faced...leather cleaner

Hi Chris
Similar to the above query, but rather than cleaning the door panels, what do you recommend for "dressing" them.
I have a black interior and even when cleaned, the door panel below the glass and the pull handle have a greyish appearance. Unlike the dashboard which has a slight sheen and is easy to maintain, the door panel seems to have a more matt finish. I don't like the greasy finish that some products leave. I generally use a mild detergent for cleaning, then finish with spray polish - dashboard spray if I have it, otherwise furniture polish! (I know, not great)

One more thing....

For novices such as myself, and with not as much spare time as I would like for cleaning my car, can you provide a basic cleaning regime along with essential equipment, to keep the car looking good (paintwork mainly), but without spending so much time, my other half complains that my time would be better spent cleaning the house!

I am fortunate enough to have obtained an A2 (metallic Mauritius blue?), that was previously owned by a professional car valeter and has clearly been meticulously cared for. There are so many products (and techniques) on the market it's hard to know which are worthwhile and which are not. E.g. Snow foam? I may be showing my age now (only 46!) but when I first owned a car, you washed it with fairy liquid, T-cut to restore the colour, and Triplex polish to finish. How times have changed......

Thanks
Steve

Thanks Chris. Although a little more expensive than I thought it would be, it does sound like it's worth the money. I think I'll be giving it a go considering the 2 year expected lifespan. In your experience is the 15ml enough to do more than one application?

@A2Steve, I wonder did you buy and try Chris's recommended GTechniq C4; how was it for you?

Thanks, Andrew

Hi Andrew. Yes I did, wasn't that impressed to be honest. Did all the prep work and it still wore off in a matter of months. I fitted a votex kit in the end so didn't have to worry about it.
