MOT time... argh...

Not sure, but I think it wasn't a fail, as in dangerous do not drive, etc. @OldSchool has checked status online, and it's current MoT is still valid.
Mac.
Says the same even if it fails with a dangerous defect, unroadworthy is unroadworthy obviously there are different categories but it's the same scenario

Government website says :
"
How long can you drive after a failed MOT?

"If your car has failed an MOT, it means there are things which need to be fixed and therefore you cannot drive. However, you will get ten days in which you can drive to have repairs done and get a retest to ensure your vehicle is safe. After those ten days are up, it becomes illegal to drive the vehicle"

So that's a 10 day window to organise repairs in order to return vehicle for retest and avoid another full test, nothing more, no driving to super market or work ect

So is the valid, current certificate nullified? Looking online, as the OP did, it seems not.
Maybe , the embargo on driving, other than for repairs and retest apply only when you have no current, valid MoT?
If fail had been dangerous, the car would not be allowed to be driven at all, and would need to be trailered to the repairer. At least that's my understanding.

To my understanding, driving a vehicle you know is defective is an offence in itself and as its now documented it could potentially leave the driver in a tricky position should an incident occur. This is nothing new, it's always been this way but digital mot records means you cannot hide from it. I feel it would be mighty unlucky should this fail (which should never have been an issue so long as the adjustment if needed is carried out) become such a nightmare!

It's simply ridiculous and there's no way I would be taking my vehicle back to them cowboys!! Simply not an issue, there's no way myself (I am known for being a bit keen) or my colleagues would fail this, I wouldn't even advise it, there's nowt ruddy wrong with it ffs!!

@OldSchool Just to make things 100% to all reading the post...

DID THE CAR HAVE A MOT AND FAIL FOR THE HEADLIGHT?

If a fail has been issued then the car is not road legal and you have a set time for a partial retest at a reduced price. If the car has not been tested and the "mechanic" was using scare tactics on you then REPORT HIM and take the mater up with the garage owners. From that discussion decide to use them again or go elsewhere.

Equally I am not trying to give MOT testers a bad name. The manual is still open to the testers interpretation to an extent unless completely obvious like a blown bulb or the horn not working. I have seen personally the results of over zealous testers with an ice pick checking for rust and puncture a perfectly good fuel tank!! I have also seen testers leave a note inside the car for the owner telling them to keep an eye on things that are deteriorating but not yet too bad.

I assume the mot tester didn't put anything on the system, he expects the car back for repair. It's a tad loose headlight, probably been for a while, it's not like a wheel's gonna fall off, so apart from long journeys, going to shopping and that, should be fine for a few days.

Yeah, he said the headlight was a fail… i said do i need to leave the car here? He said no i can still drive it and i have 14 days to come back after i find a new headlamp.

So here i am looking for new headlight… but upon pulling headlamp out i can see it is still pretty sturdy and the bracket is broken… will glue it today weather permitting… and others have said their bracket is broken too and it passes no problem…

There were other bulbs that need replacing which i will do too…

Yeah he's failed it for being insecure because he's seen a broken bracket not because it was actually insecure, he hasn't tested to the criteria. Just the same with exhausts a hanger can be missing but the tester has to assess is the exhaust insecure which in the case of many modern Peugeots the missing/broken hanger makes no difference to it's overall security.
In the A2's case when the bonnet is fitted the headlamp is further secured. For me I would turn the headlights on with engine running and see if the image bounces whilst driving in the garage.

headlight has never bounced whilst idling... it is rock solid... has passed all MOT since 2018 when girlfriend started car in gear and it jumped into the corner of brick wall and cracked the lens and creased the plastic bumper shell that tore along line of metal bumper...

for all I know the bracket could have cracked and broken long before this...

so... I've just glued the bracket and also finally removed the headlamp completely...

the side light that was out was actually just out of the tube it slides into so it was working but you couldn't see it as it was inside the housing and not near where it should be... I plugged it back into the tube it goes into and all is well...

I'm letting the bracket cure before I try and slam the headlamp back in...

it was really so difficult to get access to crack to put glue onto and powder... argh... but it is done...

a neighbour was outside washing his car and I told him was was happening re: mot and he was like, just go somewhere else...

I didn't mention this before as I was a bit upset and disappointed but mechanic also said I need a new rear passenger side tire because there is a cut in it and the wires are sticking out etc and I went and had a look and couldn't see anything wrong with it...

this is a garage that I have been going to since I bought this A2 and where it passed MOT since the girlfriend/headlamp incident...

I do trust these guys but maybe they had a new mechanic do the mot or he told me the wrong tyre was damaged but I looked on all of them and they are fine...

the neighbour looked at the headlamp and he was like, it is solid it isn't moving...

I just need to pay whatever it takes and get it road worthy so I can get on with work and life etc...

also to note about this garage is they have fixed things without charging me too in the past... like they tightened up a door hinge that was getting loose and the door was starting to not close easily - when they were doing other work on it... I noticed it and they never mentioned it... I thought that was cool...

and maybe 2 years ago I had a problem with the A2 and the AA came to house and the guy said it is probably transmission related we went to garage around the corner and the estimate was something like 3,000 quid transmission replacement or something and I was like, that can't be right and when to my old normal garage (this one who does all my MOTs) and he said it was only a 120 quid repair and it has been perfect since...

Did they actually give you a piece of paper stating it had failed, and what was wrong?
Mac.

It should be on the VOSA MOT website Mac. 🤔
@OldSchool looked on there, and said his current MoT is still showing. as valid, till April, 10th I think.
I went back to the early posts, and the answer is there:
MOT says:
Headlamp insecure offside
Headlamp aim too low offside
Still like to see what MoT history website shows.
Mac.

If faults are highlighted, during a pre booked MOT test/inspection, is the examiner not duty bound to enter the reasons for failure on the VOSA website. You would think so or am i reading this all wrong. 🤔

I think the easiest way to look at this, as a pre-mot check.
No big issues has shown, that could cause serious issues for the next couple of weeks, when the mot must be done.
So for now he just gotta fix those issues, get it checked and mot is done for another year.

I don't know how this works that is why I am asking... I grew up in California...

anyway, I've now fixed everything except 1 item. Well, 2 if you count the tire with a cut in it with the cables hanging out that neither I nor the neighbour could see on any of the tires.

I made sure to ask, because if it did have a cut in the tire with the wires hanging out I would have gone to a tire place and had it done right then...

The tire comment was told to me verbally and then written by hand on paper they gave to me.

the Headlamp was I think 3 items, headlamp loose, headlamp pointing too low and the side light bulb not working. - have now fixed all these things as the bracket is glued and the headlamp fitted into the slots, the side light was re-inserted into the tube and works...

there was also the issue of one of the rear license plate bulbs being out and I have also fixed that today.

the one thing on the list left is anti-roll bar linkage ball joint shows wear...

the mechanic said it shouldn't be more than 150 quid to sort everything and that I need to get a new headlamp.

so will book it in now... everyone is telling me to go to a different garage but like I say I've been going to same place for many years and I just want to get it sorted...

again, I asked them should I leave the car there and they said no, go ahead and drive it isn't a problem

so hence me being worried and overthinking and asking here... I do sometimes overthink and worry...

MOT expires the 12th of April.

You'll be OK, as long as you remember they are tyres😂.
Slight play in ball joints would probably be an "advisory" Something they make you aware of, so you can fix it, but not a fail.
Mac.

Check inner tread/wall for damage it may be there!

yeah, I looked on inside inner side of tire, even rolled car backward so could see the part of the tire inside wheel well... no sign of any damage, felt all around tire as well, thought I'd get a jab or cut from the "bare wires" hanging out... all normal... neighbor and a feel around inside side of tire as well... I crawled under car and looked, rolled car back to show the top part of tire and crawled under car again... all normal...
