MOT with Stealth remap

My warranty is up on 28th March so I've booked my car in for an MOT and "Warranty Sweep" (as suggested here) at Stafford Audi this Monday (17th March).

Last May I had the A2 remapped at Stealth and was wondering if:

a:The remap would show up on the warranty sweep (not sure what they look for on that)
b:If the remap would cause the car to fail the MOT on emmisions/smoke tests that deisels as subject to now.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Djmachin
The remap will not show up on the warranty sweep and as for the MOT it should pass that as well as mine and maddys passed without a problem at all and they are rechiped by vince

no and no. if anything i would have thought it would do better on the emissions test?

but anyway, nothing to worry about.

Hi Dave,

In answer to your questions:-

a) Unless the technician runs a diagnosis and runs the ECU settings against the 'standard' setup, the remap will not be picked up. (I doubt very much that the average dealership technician would even understand these values at any rate). The warranty sweep will involve a basic diagnosis to ensure that there aren't any fault codes present and a cursory glance of the bodywork for any signs of corrosion; coupled with a visual inspection of the mechanicals. If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you check for signs of aluminium fatigue around the door hinges before you take the car in though. Although Audi have pledged to resolve this issue regardless of warranty status; you would clearly have more ammunition in your chamber with a warranty, should you need it.

b) I too have a Stealth engine remap and my car passed its M.O.T. only a couple of weeks ago without any problems what-so-ever. I have not heard of anyone failing the test post remap.

Hope this helps put your mind at rest.

Darren

That's a relief!

Thanks to all who responded. That has indeed put my mind at rest with the MOT.

I had a quick look at the door hinges the other day after reading the stories on here but saw no sign of the fatigue mentioned, although I wouldn't know what it looked like until I see any pictures. Wouldn't my car be free of the fatigue problems as it is a late model A2 (reg 28th March 2005) and would therefore be fitted with the modified hinges?

I have noticed a couple of problems that need looking at.

The first is that periodically the central locking doesn't unlock the drivers side door upon pressing the unlock button. Pressing it again unlocks it. It only happens every now and again and Audi couldn't find anything in the "logs" when I mentioned it last year.

The second is that on cold mornings the engine sometimes makes a squealing noise for a few seconds when I start the engine. I remember my dad saying it is either the water pump or fan belt is causing it.

I bet neither show up when they look on Monday and therefore won't get fixed...

Thanks again for all your help.

Dave

Dave,

The aluminium fatigue appears to affect cars regardless of age, mileage, left or right hand drive status or country of origin come to that. I own a 10th March 2005 plate myself which is free from the symptoms, but some 54 plates have been affected, as well as earlier models. The hinges fitted to all cars are of the standard type; the modification has been designed and produced as result of this problem and was therefore not a standard fitment on later models.

Check out the link for full details, if you haven't already seen it before...
