Music to test BOSE

Hard to beat a bit of nostalgia Vorsprung, more vivid memories from then than I do from last week, I lived in the middle of civil strife in the centre of Belfast in '72 but I have a tenuous link with Dick Emery, the brass band I played in opened a show in the Grand Opera House when he was top of the bill around 1980 ... never met him but at least shared the same stage, I remember the power cuts and the strikes with the streets full of rubbish, happy days :D:D:D

That must have been hard living over there with all the troubles and yes i totally agree with you can't beat a bit of nostalgia. :D ?:D

Apart from hearing the odd bomb going off and army check points we only ever heard about anything from the TV news and it was all supposed to be happening streets away, wasn't as bad as it was made out (for me anyway:))

That makes a lot of sense you saying that.? I've grown to really dislike the BBC and it's very biased reporting. As you probably know the French have been rioting all across France now for 3 months every weekend with dissatisfaction with Macron and Eu and yet the BBC have mentioned it once or twice when it first kicked of.

Recognised the Syncro straight way, think i was early 20s at the they came out? I always loved the Gyrodeck too but alas money was tight 28 or so years ago. A Rega 2 was my flavour being so young Lol. I now own a Pink Triangle Export with A Rega 303 arm and Dynavector 20x2 cartridge, all Audiofile bargains that punch way above their weight. Mind you at £700 for the cartridge it's not what you call cheap. Theres not much difference between the PT Export i have and the Anniversary but kind of hank after one or mod mine to anniversary spec with a SME series 5 arm but were talking £4k just for the arm.Need to get the car expenses out the way first. The Anniversary is as the HiFi critics said back in 1990/91 the closest thing they had heard to master tape.

I'M ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHED AT YOUR AMPS. At first i thought they were floor standing transducers but thought what name is that?? Then the penny dropped. I can only think they must be world class and hugely expensive to build. If made and retailed today something like £15 - 20K wouldn't be untoward possibly more. I do like tubed amps but as you know decent ones are lots of pennies. Tim Pavoracini of EAR springs to mind for his tube amps. I do remember the Ruark Sabres well a friend had a pair and so did my brother. I currently own a pair of Monitor Audio Studio 50's which are superb from the late nineties which won't be going anywhere with nice sensitivity at 90db which i'd bet my house on would sound world class with your amps?

I did manage to purchase a new set of Monitor Audi Studio 15's demmed on Krell pre / power you mentioned, i got a good deal on in 1994 paying quite a bit less that the £1700 rrp speakers which back then was a hell of lot for a stand mount. I made my own stands for them that weighed at least 50k each. Still miss them babies in very rare black piano finish, even though not as good as the 50's, sold them to a guy in Germany on ebay for £1500 3 years ago, snapped up within a couple days as they're so so rare. Have you ever demmed other speakers? What mods have you done to yours? I'm thinking crossover mods and internal wiring? Love your Stands and equipment support table, looks as good as the best I've seen. I still have cd but bought the PT stuff 4 years ago because i just missed playing vinyl so much and as you might know there are some superb pressings around. Are you saying your friend who built your amps thinks the Krell is better or vice versa? I've herd Krell but for me just a bit too clinical.

You had some really nice pieces I know them all very nice ? those ear valve amps delightful ..you just can’t get that deep base you need mosfett ..To be truthful if you google Colin wonfor we took everyone by surprise when we launched the Amps at the penta hotel back when ?? I was the design and build engineer Colin did the electronics I did everything else and I worked together..we used the full range of pro ac speakers for the show ..I still have a pair of the tablets ..mr and mrs krell were at the show they sat down and where mesmerised at the imaging and bass control lovely couple they started in their garage ? ..good days ..I went on to other things your right all those years ago the 50 amp we’re basically 10k a pair then ..trade ..speakers I’ve played over the years I built a pair using dynaudio bass and seas tweeters a sphere is the best shape for speaker ..the horn speakers sounded nice all have their strengths ..we were at one point going in with kef ..I was never keen their studio monitors maybe ..Martin Logan hydrostatic well the list goes on ..we will have to have a meet up ..very similar taste ..the stands and furniture I made before I met Colin for myself but mace a few pieces for the shows ..Paul

Done some googling on Colin Wonder, very very impressive indeed! Would love to hear his amps. I'm not ready yet but i'm thinking of bi-amping a pair of 707's as i use one now. Nothing exotic but i like the Quad power amps as i think it's a good synergy with MA, and just to see what can be achieved biamping. Obviously your amps i'm sure would make my 50's sound unreal but i haven't got £25k spare for amps. Lol. Regarding those EAR amps, i first heard them when a friend took me to his local HiFi shop down Buckingham Palace road around 1994. The front end was most definitely a PT Dacapo, what looked like a EAR 834 with it's twin domed cathedral like grills, the transport was a Teac of some sort and the speakers were Audio Note with their paper cones and after looking on the net just now just like the AN-J speakers. The sound was so impressive it left a lasting impression on me.That combo sounded warm yet detailed with a beautiful midrange with good bass underpinning things and just sounded sooooo right. I had a pair of Jamo Concert 8 speakers until recently just to try and see, they have Seas drivers. For me speakers need to sound right as well as look good in the home hence why audio note are a no go for me Lol, despite sounding lovely. The Jamos certainly looked good. Maybe they would sing with the righ amps?? The only reason i sold them is they just didn't posses the holographic midrange i get from the MA original Studio range namely 15, 20 se and the 50. Admittedly not all program sounded superb on the 15's but jazz and the slower stuff sounded superb, Mary Black was in the room right in front of me. This is the reason why i'm wedded to them and the exquisite cabinets. Oleta Adams album Circle of One is another the 15's loved. I recently bought an AVI preamp of ebay which has given the system a step forward. Don't know if you ever heard a pair of Epos Es22's. They took me by surprise when i heard a pair. Would love to meet up with you and talk hifi. Are you going to any of the shows this year? Kimbolton is one worth travelling for. Cheers Mark.

I had forgotten about a lot of what you have written here ...a real nice walk back through time ..I rate the epos and yes when I worked in Denmark in the eighties I hired a stereo system for the year and had jamos ? you have a good ear as you certainly know your hi fi .. you can’t go wrong with quad power amps quite neutral ..in fact British Amps full stop ..we have had some good manufacturers Cambridge audio ..naim.. pro ac ..b&w..many more ..music fidelity did a good entry level amp in the a100 that was a/b ran hot ..and of course some great valve amps ..turntables from Mitchell ..linn ..Rega ..pink triangle ..we will have a meet up I’m sure ..oh and bi wiring and bi amping can give great results ..I’m sure you know you can have really expensive components but it’s if they mesh and bring out the best in each other sometimes it just doesn’t work ..trial and error ..
aluminium picked up our Audi earlier nice lad and had a good freind with him got on with both ....left them to it they went right through the car and loved it only criticism no ashtray ?...it was a great car for 9 years ..
I meant to add fir anyone reading this if your thinking of buying a stereo outfit you could with a little guidance have a great set up for not a lot of money there are some real bargains to be had on e bay it’s just matching your components ..knowledge is all ?

My brother-in-law has a gorgeous Dunlop Systemdek II (the biscuit tin) turntable with a Linn LVX(?) and matching cartridge, it's been in storage for decades... He won't let me buy it off him, despite my sourcing his whole system (including NAD 3020A amp and KEF Coda speakers) at the age of eleven after I'd pored over endless copies of Hi-Fi Choice and Hi-Fi Answers magazines for years.

Does anyone remember the Celestion Ditton 15 bass reflex speakers?
He also has a nice pair of these speakers, again he worn't let me wrest them from him!

My Pioneer A400 was bi-wired to the Cyrus 780s with Audioquest cables, quite an astonishing open soundstage and lovely tight bass from that setup... Now I just listen to Spotify Premium or YouTube music on my iMac via Creative i-Trigue sub/sat speakers or Sennheiser Momentum's.

I got some Celestion Ditton 66’s
and I give them a stretch with
Tiësto-love comes again.
Test all my speakers with that tune.

Wow the big daddy of the Ditton range ?

After much listening to Absolute radio 70's(showing my age now) think both these songs could be added to the list.
Santana, she's not there.
The Who, won't get fooled again.
