My A2 'blog'...

You are probably right. I had the ABS issue too last year and after changing the cable and sensor, it turned out to be the wheel bearing. I had the brakes apart so many times, it was not a surprise that the threads gave out!
Cheers, Geoff

Fitted cruise control today... my rather iffy knee will no doubt be very happy about this lol...

Please note... this is not a 'how-to', just a bunch of pics of my progress... :)

I bought the kit from Kufatec for a very good price of £69 plus postage... (http://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/audi/a2/a2-8z/cruise-control-retrofit-audi-a2-8z-tdi-pd-fsi)

After disconnecting the battery I removed the airbag... always a little wary of them but has to be done...

Removed the stalk assembly...

...and took it apart to reassemble with the cruise stalk...

Fitted it all back in...

ECU out...

...and plug in the wires...

One thing to note is the Kufatec loom is all grey... they have the wire 'colours' written (in German) on the wires...

Finished off with the power connection for the cruise control... (I did insulate it after of course...)

Terrific photography! What a useful guide! I think that this would give anyone the confidence to do this, themselves! (I regret paying someone else to do this, now) Keep up the good work, and many thanks for your interesting thread!

I replaced the arm recently - from my receipt...

8Z2955407C Wiper arm £73.89
8Z2955425C Wiperblade £13.67 (obviously if your current blade is OK you won't need this ...)

then you have to add + 20% VAT, and maybe delivery.

Obviously the cost will vary - this was from a local Audi parts department

.

cheers for that mike, tuffty will you be taken any photo,s of said arm replacement :D i would quite like to replace mine but am wary of trying without some pics to help.

Sorry mate... already done the deed and only pics I took I posted... its not that tricky... you need to remove the bonnet, prise the caps off the arms, undo the nuts and spray a little penetrating fluid on to help them release... Ideally you would use a took like this...
url.jpg

If you don't have access to one then you can gently rock the arm to 'walk' it off the shaft

It looks trickier as its an odd design but it not too bad really... the larger shaft is the actual wiper motor one... the smaller one just spins

Sorry, didn't think it would be the sort of thing that would warrant loads of pics... did find this though which may help..

The uprights I order turned up today... excellent service from the eBay seller...

Considering they are from a 2007 car they don't look that brilliant but the plan was always to blast then clean and paint...

I was hoping that I could just fit these once cleaned and painted but looking at the following pics I can see why cars with this setup suffer from ABS issues so much...

20140520_171054.jpg

The ABS rings look quite corroded so I think I will just get a new set of bearings and then its done.... I might try and give them a light coat of paint to try and prevent corrosion from kicking in too soon but I guess this design looks pretty much doomed to fail from the get go...

On the plus side they look like they have threads at least lol

Will get them stripped this weekend and see how things go

They do look particularly grotty when compared to the bearings I recently replaced. I guess you have access to the special tool for changing the bearings?

Cheers, Geoff

Yeah... I have access to the tools... was a bit disappointed but at least if I get these cleaned up and painted plus fit new bearings that should see me ok for a fair few years to come..

I didn't anticipate replacing as much as I have in such a short time but thats partially down to me not liking to cut corners with things... I plan to keep the A2 indefinitely so a little investment now should make sure she is in a good place...

I have finished spending money on my S3 for a while now so need something to do I guess lol...

Also discovered that the aircon isn't working and the while I probably just need a re-gas I did notice the condensor was looking a little iffy...

So have found one (on eBay) and hopefully it will be in a bit better condition than this one... I'd rather swap this out now before I get the aircon done than have it fail later...

Its a bit of a pain as I need to get the S3's aircon re-gassed too :/

Ah well... I would be actually rather bored if I didn't have something to do on a car I own lol... my S3 was off the road for 6 months while I tinkered and now thats done I may as well spend a little time getting the A2 up together...

Still love driving the A2... :)

...although I did have to give the S3 a bit of a blast last night to dust off the cobwebs lol

Got a chance to nip over to a friends place to use his blasting cabinet today...

Started by using a small ball peen hammer to break up all the crusty bits of rust...

Then over to my mates place to use his kit..

Came out pretty well... I removed the bearings and ABS sensors too at this point and new ones are on order...

Back to the unit and coated them in etch primer...

...followed by some Rustoleum Hard Hat black top coat...

Will sort them out next weekend once all the gear has turned up

Washed the car as she was a little dirty and tried out my favourite protection/sealant combo on silver cars...
20140526_160541.jpg

I use this on my S3 and works fantastically... I do need to give the A2 a proper detail at some point but thought I would try it at least...

Not the best pics but you get the idea... this stuff really makes the flakes in the silver pop in the sunshine and gives a kinda wet look... will need to go over the A2 with the DA soon and give her a full treatment

Keep em coming tufty... love this blog!

Will do mate although at some point it would be nice not to have to post as it would suggest I have nothing to 'fix' lol...

Interesting development over the past few week... I noticed the NSF tyre looked a little low and sure enough it had 15psi in it... guess I have a slow puncture (not checked the tyre yet)... pumped it up checking all the other pressures too and so far the ABS issue has not come back..

I know these cars take actual speed from the ABS sensors (my S3 uses a sensor in the gear box) and kinda suggests it was having a paddy due to the different rolling radius caused by the deflated tyre...

This is interesting as VAG started fitting a tyre pressure warning system that uses the ABS sensors... suggests that the tyre pressure warning is almost a fix for a problem caused by a deflated tyre and inflating a tyre is certainly cheaper than new ABS sensors and wheel bearings lol...

Ironically I seem to be getting a rumble from the NSR bearing now... typical!!!...

Job for next month :)

Tuffty - only just stumbled on this thread and what a good 'un it is too - excellent photos. Keep 'em coming.

BTW in post #8 there is a good shot of the inside of the tailgate & what I think are the two aerial amps - AM & FM ?? I'm wanting to replace at least one of them as I presently have no FM reception when the rear demist is on so as a bit of long shot was wondering if you managed to catch their part number(s).

Cheers,

Andy B

I wasn't looking mate tbh as wasn't the focus of my attention at the time... I can have a look when I get back from work tonight... in the mean time this may be useful...

I'd certainly be grateful if they're still on display but don't take the tailgate apart on just my behalf!

That link looks to be seriously useful - straight into bookmarks.

Top man!
