My A2 hyper mile gt1479va build (target 850kgs)

found some info relevant to my curiositys so will just c&p in this post..

038 253 019 A or C (GT1749 V) 115PD/100PD/110VE turbo
VNT-15 and GT1749V malleissa 33,5 mm intake and 36,5 mm flight

038 253 016 F (GT1749 Va) 130PD turbo
Garrett GT1749VA, 35 mm intake and 36,5 mm flight

038 253 016 G (GT1749 Vb) 150PD turbo
Garrett GT1749VB, 37 mm intake and 38,3 mm flight

03G 257 019 V395 (GT1749 VM) 170bhp turbo
2006 Euro TDI Golf

the main difference is the shaft and compressor wheel specs.
turbos fitted to PD's
Garrett designated turbos--------- intake Bore-------------- Exhaust Bore

GT 1749 V(110/115) ------------------1.326" -------------------1.441"
GT 1749 VA(130)-----------------------1.390"--------------------1.467"
GT 1749 VB(150) ----------------------1.459" -------------------1.505

Tip height
GT1749V = 4mm
GT1749VA = 3,7mm
GT1749VB = 4mm

So the VA has a slighly bigger wheel on the compressor side as compared to the vnt15. The VB has both a bigger compressor and exhaust wheel so it should flow better on the exhaust side compared to the VA? The VA should spool a little faster than the VB, and maybe on par with the oem VNT15 due to the reduced tip hight??

iv got a va, but would love to try both va and vb on an ATL just to see what the differences are like

Another 18kilos approximately shaved off with the pepper pots + tires
Went for 195/50/15 temporarily as I had tires just sitting there

Really want 165/45/15s

Just prepping for a single mass flywheel and clutch kit as my dmf is definitely on its last legs .

Think I'm Gona use the larger 228mm setup with a g60flywheel
Just trying to figure out if it would fit in the current bell housing, but info is non existent out there after serching,

Does anyone know what type of gearbox comes mated to an ATL?? Is it an 02J case??

Nice.

One of the lightest 15" rims is the Rays Super ECO 15x6 ET45 5x100: 4,1 kg. I don't know if you could get an approval to use them in the UK. If not, just forget it;-)

13,3 kg is good enough;-)

I asked about the DMF because I have high vibrations due to a SuperPro silent block. Feels like sitting in a shaker:)

minted.. interestingly enough on my findings i found that the mk1 Citoren c5 comes with aluminium steel wheels that weigh 4.6 kilos each.. which is really good for a steely... only problem is though its 5x108

yea just taking her for a drive on the new wheels and you can feel the unsprung weight difference

got a wee problem.. im wanting to delete the aircon pump, pipework, aircon rad etc..

is it just a simple case of using a smaller belt?? if so which belt size do i go for? also does the 3l 1.2tdi have aircon??n if not, is that the belt id use?

One my tdi's is non AC , it has a different base mounting plate, alot smaller in size and weight , due to no ac pump mounting needed but looked to be same positions of alternator and tensioner pully so imagine you could just use the non AC belt , 6PK858

are you sure your gonna have a drivable car after removing parts to achieve your targeted weight ;)

are you in the photo on previous page if so which one? good to put faces to names :)

Love it! Cracking project.
Ironic that you are taking a bench seat out and I need an A2 with three in the back. What's the drama about a 3 for 2 change then? Are the A2 shells not fitted with all the fixing points?

Unfortunately not.

Nothing is impossible but you need to consider this change as not feasible, especially since the floor mountings are not there and they have to hold a trememndous force from potentially three people hurtling forward at great speed in a crash.

So please don't attempt this conversion.

The floor pans are, for some reason, (best known to Audi designers) VERY different)

Back in my early A2 ownership I looked at this swap and the front mounts can be swapped but the floor mounts are specifically located with strengthening and so it is not just a drill and bolt job.

The only feasible solution is to swap / part exchange you vehicle for one with three seats.

Thanks Cammy,
I'm taking the photo there's also another girl in the photo u can't see.

Back to this a2 I'm totally smitten with it,
It's just a shame it looks so ****,
Every time I walk away or to it I'm never struck by its beauty
But there in lies it's charm as a q car, people never expect it to be that quick,
I'm also impressed by the handling and how flat it corners on what must be shagged suspension .
The power delivery is amanse for a roads just leave it in 5th and use the Torque

Can't wait to map it

On dong my searches it turns out the turbo on my ATL is a Borg Warner and it's of similar size an dimensions to a gt1749
Just need to find out exact measurements

got it booked in for a decat
And also bought some really rare centre locking wheels for it today.
image.jpg

And making use of her as a wee van earlier today getting many wheels lol

Anyway since getting this motor AV done 4000 miles
Iv found myself just randomly in the middle of the night jumping into it and going on mad 500 mile drives,
Last Sunday after the club drove from Edinburgh to Skye
At 40-45 all the way, didn't brake or stop once and managed 85mpg on the dis

Got more mods coming soon

But the way this is Gona end Iv got an itch for a pd170 2.0 engine to fill its boots, I think I could get one running in it without too much hassle, ultimately that's what I'm Gona do,
In the mean time I'm still on track with what I'm doing with a more weight coming off over the weekend.

am i right in saying the turbo on the atl is a borgwarner kp39

if so the exhuast side is the same.. but the compressor wheels is 46mm instead of 49mm so the gt1749va would still be an upgrade..

http://post.idparts.com/newest/81-text/tech/7-vnt17-vs-kp39-tdi

here are some specs i found on it

Wheel Size-

Nose Dia.: 9.42 mm

Inducer Dia.: 33.59 mm

Exducer Dia. : 46.00 mm

Trim: 53

Extend Tapered Tip Exducer dia : 49.01 mm

Tip Height: 3.61 mm

Super Back Height: 2.81 mm

Overall Height: 24.62mm

Bore: 4.10 mm

Rotation: Forward

Blade : 6+6

so for now i think im gona screw the boost out of the current turbo to see how it handles. .my mate has a revo garage so gona get the decat fitted then get it mapped.. i really cant wait for this..

Managed to finally get a few photos of mine , u all know what they look like tho,

Can't wait to get it low down to the ground, at the moment it sits way to high at the back as Iv taken all that weight out as u can see in the photos ,

Spied a coilover kit

But does anyone know if il also have to buy adjustable drop links when lowering my a2?

I have an ATL. The info I found about the turbo is

Turbo part number: 045 253 019 A
Manufacturer: KKK (Kuhnle, Kopp & Kausch; since 1998 3K-Warner Turbo Systems = BorgWarner Turbo Systems GmbH)
Manufacturer TN: 5439-988-0015
Turbo family: BV39 / BV39-15
type: VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry)

Ref this post, it may be worth talking with JIGSAW about flywheel swaps - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...DI-cylinder-head-Overhaul&p=279008#post279008

Ok doing the diesel purge, pretty stoked and relieved at the moment the cars been idling fine now for 20 minutes so that means there must be air getting into the fuel somewhere

First off I'm Gona take out the lift valve/strainer in the tank and give it a clean,
If that doesn't fix il change the fuel in the tank,
If that doesn't work
it in I'm Gona order a new filter housing + filler

got meters of pipe here to change the piping

So glad that the cause of the problem has been narrowed down

Thanks again

ok amazing!! shes alive again and on the road!!

so it turned out the fuel was contaminated!!

heres a pic of purging..
fuel2.jpg

drained the tank and put 15 quid of fresh clear fuel in and shes back to normal! 5 months off the road due to **** contaminated fuel. i wander if theres anyything that can be done for this on the offending garage

look at the colour of the fuel!!
fuel.jpg

now i can finally get back to where i was before, but as iv replaced all sensors she pulls a lot better
next on the list will be a boost gauge then il have a stab at remappng it myself
