OK so its not drastic but it is very URGENT . This noob really needs some help with an oil change on my 1.6FSi.

The car is on some ramps in my drive in the rain after I spent the last 35 mins removing the under tray and 30 mins prior to that trying to get the car on the ramps without damaging the underside.:(

Now on first sight I couldnt see the sump plug although there are several bits covers and things mainly held on with large torx bolts that could reveal a sump plug. Then I saw a large nut head, probably about 16 mm, sticking out the side of the sump pan facing to the rear of the car. I am a bit surprised its not on the bottom of the pan.

Before I remove it incorrectly is this the sump plug???? I only ask 'cos I am not sure what all the other things are on the bottom of the pan , I cant find an image / diagram on the web or on here and if the car will be stuck up on the ramps if I b****r up in any way.

Anybody help............please

Cheers,

Ian

Great forum BTW.........I'll enjoy havin' a nose around :D

Mine is an 04 1.6FSi SE Colour Storm in red of course:p had it from new , last of the pre-reg ones that were knocking about in the Audi dealer network . No extras apart from a couple of S line badges .

Hi Ian, saw your thread on the GS site. I couldn't help you 'coz I've never changed my own oil.

I've got the 1.4 tdi sport re-mapped by stealth racing. Had it now for just over two years and done 45 thousand miles in it so far. It is an absolute hoot to drive, and economical too. I can't see me ever selling it ( although I 'spect I will just for a change) - eventually.

Glad you got your probs sorted. Enjoy your car;)

Obviously you now know that is the sump plug!
What amazes me more is that you found the oil filter without asking. I have changed the oil twice now on my FSI and still take a minute or two to find the filter.
One note on the filter, I changed this last month and noticed that VW have reduced the size of the socket needed on the head of the filter. I was trying to tighten the b****r for 3 mins before I cottoned on!
