My A2 Project

Thought I'd start a project thread for my car. Its a 1.4SE. Was brought as a run-around, but I've never had a 'standard' car! Mods won't be too serious as I'd like a TDi, but until I find one, the SE will get all the attention.
First mod, wheels & tyres. 17" TTRS replicas. 205/45/17 tyres. (coil overs are ordered, hopefully will be delivered & fitted in time for the ADI).
Cheers, John. P1010009.JPGP1010064.JPGP1010069.JPG

Looking good John. Who'd guess the A2 design is now 16 years old. Looking forward to seeing it at ADI.

Lovely wheels. These look excellent on the A2 in my opinion. If I was to consider upgrading my standard sport wheels these would be my choice. Really gives a contemporary look. Steve is right. The car isn't dating like others of its time.

Very nice wheels !
I own the same ones for 1.5 year, and each time I look at my A2, I congratulate myself for choosing them :)

Hi all,
Just an update on my progress, couple of small changes sidelight bulbs changed to LED (looks so much better)

Coilovers finally fitted. Few hassles to fit the rears, but its sorted. Ride height can go a lot lower, but I wasn't about being low, I just wanted a much firmer ride. You can see from the pics its not much lower than standard height, but corners & roundabouts are a lot better!!! :) (Last picture is of my other project/summer drive which was finished over last Christmas, which has an even firmer ride :):)). See you all at the meal. Cheers. John.

Looks good, what suspension kit did you buy? This upgrade is next on my to do list!

Hi, Suspension kit was TA Technix (got off Ebay) but wasn't a straight forward fit. The rear spring perch/adjustors have been re-designed & no longer fit the A2 without modification to the rear sub-frame. You need to cut off the original lower spring retaining sleeve on the sub-frame (if this makes sense). Didn't do this on mine, jus modified my adjustor instead. This was only done because the coilovers will probably be taken off and used on a diesel if I get one, so I can return the petrol car back to standard springs etc. Apart from that, the kit itself is quite nice, is very stiffly sprung, but don't mind this as its great for cornering. Only other thing you need to do is put shorter anti-roll bar links. These were cheap, £35 off EBay for adjustables. Cheers. John.

Hi Guys, An update on the project.....well sort of. Think the pic says it all.

Silver one was getting lonely, so now has a friend. TDI 75 to keep it company. Reckon I should change my name now to Johnny-2-Projects!
Couple more pics of the diesel. Its a bit tatty but lowish miles 86,000. Mechanically fine, which is what I wanted it for. Planning to do a few other little bits to the silver one to tidy it up, & then diesel one will have major work done to it.

Not clean in the pics. Had just driven it home in a torrential storm.
Cheers. John.

There is no known antidote to the A2 bug!!!!

Nice to see that you are taking the prescribed medicine for it (more A2 fun)

No major plans yet for the black one, although will keep the wheels off the silver one to swop at some point. Although have already swopped to 3 spoke steering wheel & later slatted front grille. The black one is a Cat C car (rear damage) so long term plan will probably be ideally re-building into another shell, depending on what colour shell I get, whether I give it a total re-spray & add extras (climate control, fogs etc). Black one was mainly bought for all the running gear, but this'll probably be a summer project to keep me out of trouble.......or should that be in trouble, with the Mrs. As another shell means, oops, a 3rd A2. Ideally an FSI with a blown engine or crap mechanicals. Oh well, better start making some space in the garage.
See you guys at the curry night.

Hi Alan, Sorry for late reply, have only just seen your question. But yeah, used standard wheel bolts & everythings fine.
Cheers. John.
