My A2 Story

Greetings one and all,

Very glad to join such a knowledgeable community of A2 enthusiasts. Some of you may have already seen my Facebook activity with my post ‘ Seeing double: The A2 Dilemma’, citing the agonised decision I have had in choosing between which A2 to keep, for which a decision has now been reached with the Colour Storm to be properly advertised imminently. However it is only today that I have made the technological leap of faith, so to speak, in pushing my ICT capabilities by signing up to the club, so still very much an A2OC newbie.

Audi A2’s hold a certain fondness within my heart, as we know they are brilliantly capable cars, lightweight, spacious exceptionally frugal and sufficiently rare and different to the many euro-boxes of the 21st century. I was fortunate enough to have a relatively hitch-free introduction into A2 ownership back in mid-2015, when I bought PE53 EFV a black 1.4 TDI 75 from a local motor group, that at the time had low miles at 68,000 and an even more remarkable ownership, of demonstrator plus one private owner at the point of taking over the reins. Quite the high-specified example in itself for having the false floor with storage tray, front fogs, climate control and all round factory mudguards (which I am desperately trying to source a pair of fronts for my latest A2- if you have any please inbox me). My first A2 served me reliably for nearly four years, when I decided to make the retrospectively myopic and rash decision to bid farewell to the car in favour of something newer. Advertising it on the web, it eventually went to a Gentlemen couple from near Glasgow in February 2019. I hope that the car still survives and continues to be cherished, (a quick search on MOT history draws a blank, and I can only hope PE53 EFV now runs about with a private registration, just as it did for most of my ownership).

What followed was a barrage of underwhelming motorcars, owned for a short period of time, the chopping and changing perhaps indicative of the fact I was, in essence, missing the charms of an A2. This lit the touch paper for a search that lasted over a year for a replacement car, combing the classifieds until I achieve success in my endeavours only last month, putting a halt to my exhaustive search, securing the 2005 A2 special edition 1.4 TDI SM05 HXT, a car that for all its sins, has highly sensible mileage of just over 86,000 miles, has a leak-free and operational OSS, and benefits from front fogs and climate control, the former not a given on the otherwise relatively sparsely specified special edition models. My intention is to sympathetically bring this example up to the standard I am happy with, including fitting new genuine over-mats, ordering new check-straps for the driver’s door and look into what causes its biggest Achilles heel, its intermittent EML light which has no effect seemingly on power delivery and sometimes goes out completely- can anyone point to any theorised causes? This A2 is for the most part, a good useable example, and is very close in appearance to my original example even down to the same alloy wheels, fuelling the desire to further replicate its specification. Of course it has its flaws but what A2 15 years after production end does not have the odd quirk or two? In any case I cannot wait to be running round in my A2 back to its former glory, come spring, just need to find a pair of front A2 mud-flaps first ;)

Happy Motoring all and stay safe out there!

Hi
I can provide you with a better than New Audi door check strap. It is a refurbished unit that as the two failure point replaced with far more durable parts. Namely the rites are replaced with stainless steel mounts and bolts and the plastic rollers with brass rollers
The price is also far better than Audi at £25 plus £4.10 postage. I need your old one back and there is a refundable deposit of £20 until you return your old strap

I can almost certainly say that I have a fix for your eml which is almost certainly the ASV going slightly out of tolerance. A scan is ideally needed to prove this but this is very common on the bhc and atl engines
I can offer a free scan if you are ever around the st Anne’s area

Send me a personal message if you want either or both

Cheers. Paul

Welcome aboard :) that's a nice brace you've got there. Are you sure you've only got room in your life for the one? :D
If not, the Market here could be a good place to advertise when the time comes. To take advantage of it, click your username in the top menu bar, select Account Upgrades, there's a £2 fee via PayPal and you should be all set. You could put up a Wanted ad for the mudflaps too.
