My Cobalt Twist A2 1.4Tdi

Hey all, I just bought a Cobalt Twist A2 1.4Tdi, and I believe it has almost every option. Bose, Opensky, Webasto, Navigation Plus, Leather. Sadly the man who had this car before me bought this for his mother, and he has fallen ill and the mother got a new car. I am from America but I love weird cars and I have fallen in love with this thing. The car is overall in really good condition and hardly any rust. with 240,000km it has a little wear but nothing that cant be cleaned. There are a couple things that I am looking to fix as the car is just gotten old and old plastics. There are some parts i will be looking for and things that need fixing. Also my navigation is missing its cd or cant read the one thats inside. But it says that there isnt one inside so my guess is, its just gone. So if someone can link me the right one for Poland, but also has English as a language that would be great.

Rear passenger window needs a new regulator
Replace larger cluster screen as has some dead lines
all fluids changed and flushed
new tires
Opensky roof is clicking but sealed tight
engine cover is missing, but all bottom panels are there.
mudflaps
roof racks
window washer cap
rims need a refresh
timing belt in the next year or two
Thermostat seems to be stuck open or something odd where it goes to operating temp then goes cold then back up slightly ect.
need new dimmable rearview mirror mine seems to be full of a dark liquid thats about 75% of the view

overall the car is i really good shape, its just a 25 year old car haha!

so far its better than my Volvo v70R back in the states, but I am a glutton for punishment so here we go

oh and if anyone has an original car phone I belive this one came with it and I would love to get it.

Any and all help is appreciated! Ill be reading the forum and keeping everyone updated. I also have a couple of things i want to make for this car like a cup holder for the hand grab area, it seems to be big enough and seems like a good spot.

Welcome to the club, if you go to your account and look for account upgrades, you cna join market place for £2 and access lots of parts adn also request parts. Well worth doing.

Your car look great, I see it has head light washers, do they work? If not I have some spares which are very rare. The pumps behind the bumper are common only to audi s3 of simliar era.

Please do post more pictures! @2work is wellversed in rns screens and satnav as indeed is @timmus , they may be some help there to get that up to date.

Look forward to seeing some more photos.

Welcome a nice early car great spec car.
Yes common issue with the thermostat make sure you buy genuine Audi part for that.

More pictures please

Your A2 is currently fitted with RNS-D SatNav. You won't be at all shocked to learn that it's archaic and totally out-of-date. If I remember correctly, the last navigation disc was released in 2008, so won't know about any road layout changes from the last 17 years!
RNS-D's internal disc drive is for the navigation disc only. It will not read anything else, and cannot be used as a CD player. It's possible that the existing disc is unreadable, or that the optical disc drive has failed. Knowing which is the case could be really handy.

I have a spare RNS-D unit in mint condition, and I believe I also have a 2008 navigation disc. However, the disc is unlikely to include Poland, as it includes Britain, and Audi navigation discs tend to split Europe roughly along the line of the Iron Curtain.

RNS-D's successor is immaginatively called RNS-E. Whilst RNS-E is significantly more modern and can include up-to-date maps, it is also starting to show its age when compared to internet-connected touchscreen devices such as smartphones. Very few people use RNS-E for navigation purposes these days.
It is not possible to do a straight swap from RNS-D to RNS-E; the wiring is fundamentally different and some understanding is required to perform the upgrade, especially when RNS-D is linked to the contemporaneous telephone integration.

The telephone base plate that I can see in the photos above is exceptionally rare in the UK. I must've touched half the A2s remaining in Britain, and I've seen this option just once on a UK A2. In Central Europe, they're significantly more common; I might've worked on a dozen left-hand-drive A2s with this option.

These stem from the era when Nokia was king. There is no original car phone to go with your car. Instead, you would buy a suitable adapter such that your Nokia 3210 could interface with the base plate. If you upgraded your phone to the Nokia 3310, you'd also have to buy the appropriate adapter from Mr Audi.
Needless to say, Audi don't make an adapter for the iPhone 1, let alone the iPhone 27 or whatever we're up to now. Instead, it is possible to remove the base plate entirely and replace it with an out-of-sight Bluetooth unit that connects to any modern smartphone wirelessly. I've added this to countless A2s. Once done, any phone with Bluetooth can connect to the car, allowing hands-free telephone functionality.

I hope that furthers your understanding.

All the best,

Tom

Cooling temp sensor.

+ "there" is also a throttle body next to it (although everything is relatively close in the engine bay), I'd take an opportunity to clean it,
but only if you have an OBDII reader or VCDS that can adapt the throttle body afterwards.

I am perfectly happy with the old archaic thing, It sounds like the cd system is working because when i tell it to eject it makes all the right noises, and when it tries to load the cd, i dont hear any noises at all like spinning up or seeking or anything. I will have to look carefully inside to see if theres a cd or not.

I love the old look of this unit and id like to leave the car sorta stuck in time, but I want everything to function. with a careful cleanup my unit seems to be in near perfect condition.

I am also torn about the rear view mirror, I have been looking at units that are android auto and carplay that replaces your rearview mirror, seems like a decent oem+ thing and it fixes both of my problems, and its stealthy. Also I dont know if that rearview mirror thing would have bluetooth audio that i would route into the head unit or just buy the blutooth adapter for the cd changer like usual, but I will probably test this out as its not that expensive.

I want to clean the car up and detail it some before I take more pictures. I am getting new tires thursday and doing all of the fluids as they are probably just old and might as well start from 0.

I have full vcds, and will do! good to know.

A2 on ATS Type 10s. Now that's a sight!
I dont know much about these except they are forged and I think look pretty good on the car. The little wheel nut covers are a cute touch as well. I have the missing ones in perfect shape in the glove box and will install them after. I also want to get them redone so they look nice. And for winters I want pepperpots as I think they are cute.

These were niche popular on vwvortex back in the days (probably still are, idk),
while an 18 inch version was used by Porsche tuner, Techart, so again, niche popular also among 911 enthusiasts.

Pepperpots are great, also stupid light.

Ok erryone, here are the pics. I just cleaned the interior minus carpets. I changed the cabin air filter. Stopped at the auto store here in Poland and picked up filters and oils. I found out that the outer gasket on the high pressure fuel pump was weeping so I picked up a gasket kit. I will try to reseal everything if not replace the pump. But I am very happy with the cars condition. It does need lots of little things but it doesnt stop the car from functioning. I found some water damage on the bottom of the door cards, and they cleaned up but the mdf or whatever is weak, so just that's life. I also bought a little headlight polishing kit.

The car has 240,000km which doesn't bother me but 3rd gear is a tad grindy if you shift fast, so I am going to change the fluid twice and see if it improves. Stage 0 is coming along. Just got the tires in I got Firestone nighhawk 2's. I will probably redo the rims next year over the winter when i change them over.

I have not tested the front washer nozzles, but I am also not sure how to activate them..... Let me know what else you guys see.

I don't think you'll find a windows washer cap. Since it folds away I don't think anything gets in there and past the mesh to screen for flotsam and jetsam.

I'm guessing the headlamp washers, if that's what you mean, will activate when headlights on and windscreen jets are used.

That's a high-spec' A2.

Heated leather Sport seats, Bose premium sound system, rear electric windows, climate control, OpenSky, RNS-D with telephone prep', DIS instrument cluster, front fog lights, headlight washers (when your headlights are switched on, the windscreen washer trigger will also spray water at the headlights).
I can't see whether the car has cruise control or not. Same with rear parking sensors. However, there's no doubting that the original purchaser splashed the cash.

Enjoy!

Yup its got cruise, and rear parking sensors. I havent heard if they rear parking sensors work yet, but I will figure that out. It has slightly higher mileage than I was looking for but I looked for many months and this was the only one I could find that had any premium features, it just turns out it has all of them. I can handle fixing things related to high km, thats easy. Adding options seems very painful, ive scrolled through some builds and i felt tired after reading them.
