Hi everyone,
I signed up a couple of weeks ago as I was in the market for my first A2. I currently drive an Audi S4 Cabriolet (2004) with a delicious 4.2 V8. She is the best car I have ever had and fast becoming a bit of a garage queen for me, but I will post more about her in a separate thread. But suffice to say for now that as she is over 11 years old and only has 48K miles on the clock, I am trying to keep the commute miles on her to a minimum, My wife has a Nissan Juke which I used to pinch but she has a new job so I decided to get a 2nd car..
My requirements were;
• That it was to have at least double the mpg of the S4
• Not diesel
• Reliable
• Low costs for servicing/ownership
• Cheap Tax
• My budget was a max of £2500
• … Oh and if it could be something a little different that would be great
So I stuck my requirements into Autotrader and started nosing around. Out of the blue I stumbled across an A2 and it was one of those light bulb moments! I thought these were terrific little cars, adore the design and its another Audi - PERFECT!
So a bit of research and advice from friends on another forum I frequent, and it seemed that the only thing I was going to have to reconsider was my “Jeremy Clarkson attitude” to the Devil’s-own “go juice” that is Diesel. It was clear the best option was a A2 1.4 TDi giving the best MPG, overall reliability and cheaper maintenance costs. This was obviously proving right as finding a decent low miler in my price range was a tall order. But I did it, finally, after a 6 hour round trip we bought this little beauty home:
She’s a Sept 2001, SE 1.4 TDI in Silver with a FSH and only 79K on the clock – an absolute steal at £2075!!!
To say I am chuffed to bits is an understatement! I am heavily into detailing so she will get a full going over in that area. The only other things I want to do are:
Add the Xcarlink USB/SD unit to the Chorus I tape head unit so I can have my MP3 tunes
Replace a missing rear n/s window winder
Centre console – bottom ash tray does not shut and both drinks holders do not come out/work.
If anyone has any pointers on the last 2 that would be a great help.
