My first A2

Will be looking at switching the ignition barrel & door lock over in the next few weeks, can any give any advice on removing and replacing the ignition barrel? I take it the steering wheel needs to come off?
Thanks for any help

Well today I had the main man for electrics Timmus out, what proved to be a lot more of a problem than we first thought was fully diagnosed & sorted in a few hours!

New ‘AF’ CCCU fitted, 2 key fobs coded so I now have a spare key, fitted me the door lock & ignition barrel, sorted my previous wiring mistakes so my rear doors now lock, boots unlocks, & my electric windows now work again! Cannot recommend Timmus’s services highly enough, real nice person to meet & his knowledge is unbelievable!

Fitted the rear speakers & amp this week which Tom correctly coded to the headunit for me, saving for cruise control next.

Managed to land 1 of the 12v flip out cigarette lighters for the boot, well 2 actually as after a few beers I out 2 offers in on flea bay and won both!!

As I haven’t got the plug or connector that plugs into the back of the socket, I was going to cut & solder the wires either direct to the battery with an in-line fuse or I’ve read I can splice into the front cigarette lighter wires - any hints on how to do this & how do I know which wire is the positive & which is ground?

Use a continuity tester. As far as. I know the wall is always ground and the base is always positive in a modern 12v cigarette socket setup. I think some really old cars had it different but I think it’s standard now.

Pinky is correct centre pickup point is 12v +ve. And outer case is ground or -ve
In the docket near the handbrake there will be a third wire which is the 12 volt feed for the lighting circuit ie only 12 volts when side or headlights are on. This is likely to be a thinner wire were as the ground and main power feeds are quite thick wires to handle the 10 amps or so that can be pulled from the power socket

Thank you very much both, how easy is splicing into the original cigarette lighters cables & what is involved. It’s easier to just go direct to the battery but I want the cable to switch off when the car isn’t running so I can’t accidently drain the battery
