My first A2

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised.

So, jobs left to do.

Front discs pads and back plates
Rear discs pads and back plates
Rear NS caliper sticking - overhaul with new seals and fit handbrake return spring
New brake fluid
New green hydraulic oil
Replace Fuel filter
Clean, treat and paint rear axle beam
Remove turbo and clean - hopefully fix eml and locate oil leak in that area
Fix oil level sensor
replace coolant bottle and re fill with new pink (currently on second flush fill)
Fix the drivers door strap (ordered from Paul)
Find new fuel flap release button and the one above (whatever that does)
Give the car a going over with my da polisher and give her a good wax
Clean the inside and shampoo seats
Fix the slipping drivers side carpet mat (are new clips available?)

I have a timing belt kit on order but this is not due until end of the year. At that time I may change the oil pump drive chain and sprockets.

Good Evening Dave,

The button above the fuel flap switch disables the alarm system interior monitor which detects movement inside the car. Primarily for dog owners who wish to leave their dog(s) in the car while locked without the dog(s) setting off the alarm, but possibly other situations such as children (probably illegal) while I occasionally lock my wife in the car while briefly away!

Used buttons are becoming scarce and costly now being NLA from Audi. You need 8L4962109A, the A is critical as RHD and be careful without the A it is LHD. They are available new on Audi Tradition at €25 but with Brexit they are not available to UK customers if you can find a a way round that.

Thanks Andy. Are they used in other Audi/VW group cars? I have a good breakers near me.

The MkI Audi A3 (8L model, hence the suffix on the part number above) uses the same alarm button so you should be able to get one of those, however, the fuel flap (8Z2959833) is A2 only. Crewe Audi certainly had those relatively recently - I got one from them just before Christmas. The 8Z2 bit implies rhd ; 8Z1 is lhd-specific, and 8Z0 parts are ambidextrous. Otherwise they are on Ebay but the price is beginning to tick up (into the 30s quid, but at least no import delay issues).

Here's a daft question though ; is the LHD part just the RHD part upside-down, ie, usable but the logo would be the wrong way up when clicked home into the pillar trim?

Crewe Audi's one is the cheapest I've seen on UK Ebay, and apparently the last.

to edit that, there are also a couple on Ebay at 29 quid, but combinations of shipping charge and / or being in Lithuania in the small print.

Definitely does work as this is what one of my A2s has. I am guessing that it requires the wiring in behind it to be twisted around though.

If I remember, floor clips (the lower one that goes through the carpet and locates onto the underfloor access panel lid, as well as the upper ones that go through the floor mat and clip onto the lower ones) are readily available - both from the breakers here, and EBay if you want brand new ones.

Parts diagram -

you are looking for parts 4 and 27A / B (which confusingly are on the https://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+a2/a2/2003-248/0/061-61010/ page), and are a part from the 8E Audi A4 - 8E0061493A

Dave
I think that the oil level switch is at the back of the engine on the O/S near the bottom wiring runs all the way up the back then across the top of the manifold it is covered in the silver type foil.

Thanks very much. Very useful.

Excellent. Thanks.

Dave. Please check if you fuel filter as the original plastic drain screw. If it as and you are going to change the filter then I would suggest buying one of my aluminium drain screws as it is very very likely to break on removal and then you are in a owl world of pain that you simply don’t need

Cheers. Paul

Tractor Dave sounds familiar - you don't have an S2 do you?

I have also been looking for an alarm ultrasonic button for the B-pillar (8L4962109A) and whilst I have not yet tried the local stealer, on eBay I found that you can buy them: -
  • New for £49
  • 2nd hand for £8 plus £20 shipping from Lithuania (not sure how 2nd hand RHD parts are available from car breakers in Eastern Europe)
  • New for €25.35 from Audi Tradition (link)
However, I have yet to complete an order with AT since the Brexit disaster so I have no idea if they will ship to the UK, what the shipping costs will be and what will happen with VAT charges since these are new parts. Has anyone completed an AT order in 2021?

Cheers

Yes, I should get one. Have you posted my strap yet?

Yes, I do have an S2.
Brexit wasn't such a good deal after all!

Ok. I will send you a PM.

Discovered another thing to fix. The steering arm gaiter is torn and been bodged with cable ties before. It was full of water but I think I got to it just in time before the chrome was rusted.

AT are currently not accepting orders from UK customers, the notice is on their home page.

It will just be a matter of time before they sort out their systems for life after Brexit but no idea about future custom charges, I am not sure the UK government has sorted/implemented them yet.

Ah, OK thanks, I had not seen that as I jump straight into the relevant parts pages.

I have just read the front page text you refer to. They say that they are working on it and the UK is a big market for German cars, hopefully Audi will want to sell all the RHD parts that they have remade so fingers crossed, but breath not held.

In which case, I guess for Dave and I it is back to ebay and the mystery of 2nd hand RHD Lithuanian parts.

Cheers

Lots of UK accident damaged cars were (pre brexit !!) trailered back to eastern countries & either repaired then taken back to the UK & sold or were broken & ebayed.
Another trade that has now dried up, thanks to Brexit !!
