My long-term project A2Steve

I will be following this! Have been quite tempted myself to do an a2 project like this, now it’s being done by someone else it might tempt me to do the same. Will you be doing a hybrid turbo?

Just fitted a set of excellent condition headlights. I was planning to sell them, but again they are getting few and far between so decided to fit them instead.

Dropped her off at the garage this morning for her revamp.

- DMF and clucth kit
- timing belt kit and waterpump
- oil pump chain, sprockets and guide
- service
- rear wheel speed sensor
- prosport coilovers

It should hopefully come back feeling like a different car

I've also got a set of 16 inch BBS deep dish split rims on their way to compliment the new lowered ride height.

The bonnet alos needs a respray due to laquer peel, but that may have to wait a month or 2 until I get more funds.

Well she's back from the workshop after her big overhaul so I treated her to a machine polish today.

Next jobs on the list

- get the bonnet resprayed because it has terrible laquer peel
- find a nice set of wheels

I'll also lower the front coilovers down tomorrow to a decent level.

Since purchasing un-named A2 has had an issue starting sometimes. This has gradually been getting worse. I cleaned off the earth strap yesterday to no avail. I thought it may have been a crankshaft sensor.

But tonight after moving the car off the drive I noticed a small puddle. Quick dip and sniff and it's diesel.

Had a quick look and found a wet drain nut on the fuel filter housing. Have just pm'd Tom at Crew Audi and I'm hoping he will have one in stock.

So...The moral of the story is if the car isn't starting properly then start with the basics. Has the engine got air, has it got fuel :)

Steve,
if its the latter plastic housing for the fuel filter then I have stock of the aluminium replacement drain screws £23 + £3 postage
Audi never offered this as a replacement part, only as part of the complete filter housing (over £100)
If its the older fuel filter (aluminium canister then I likely have a screw of an old one of those I can send you FOC

Hiya mate

It is the later style plastic canister, but the Drain screw is just spinning on the housing and not tightening, so I can only assume that the threads are now stripped and therefore need a replacement unit?

replied via PM, but for anyone following this thread it is very unlikely to have stripped, and almost certainly the plastic drain screw as snapped. I have sent you an aluminium machined screw, pull out the remains of the plastic screw, insert a flat screwdriver around 8mm wide (no wider) and it will click into the broken threaded part of the plastic drain screw (in the cross drilling), remove by turning the screwdriver.
Fit the O rings to the aluminium screw and fit the aluminium screw - job done

Very grateful Paul, hopefully the postman will get his skates on and deliver it tomorrow so i'm back on the road for work monday :)

Is it a bird, is it a plane, no is @depronman and his amazing A2 saving parts service ?

Got home from work at 5, Depronman drain plug fitted and showered by 5.30.

Thank you very much Paul. It was as you predicted, the original screw had snapped in half.

I'm now saved the arduous task of catching public transport in the valleys.

not to mention the screw will never break again and the cost and hassle of changing the filter housing.
Only annoying part is if Royal Mail did as they say you would have had in on Saturday :)

hello! I suspect mine might be the same but fortunately I have a brand new boxed housing that I can fit. I would love to though save the current one at some point to keep as a back up. Could I at some point buy one of you @depronman ?
