My passenger front window is stuck halfway down.....

Morning,

So I hopped in the A2 for my usual 30 mile commute to work this morning. It was a bit Dewey so I popped the front windows down and gave the wipers a quick flick.

Unfortunately the passenger window just stayed halfway down. ?

I’ve tried both switches (driver and passenger) and nothing. Obviously need to get it working again but the more pressing issue is obviously getting it shut. Any help or advice GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

Erling

Erling,
Is there any noise coming from the mechanism at all? Does the motor sound like it is trying to move the window but it’s just jammed?
If it sounds like it’s trying to work the it’s worth attempting to help it by pulling on the glass while someone else operates the button.
Also if there were one or more unusual snapping noises then you might find the window can be slid up by hand and might then need taping in place to stop it falling back down.
If it is completely dead it is worth checking the fuse but it’s a long shot.
Good luck
Matt

Thanks Matt.

No sound whatsoever when trying now.

No audible snapping sound prior to it sticking, it just stopped.

I’m going to try and manually work it up shortly after I’ve cleared my e mails. No rain due till mid day ?

Don’t use too much force, it sounds like your problem is electrical not mechanical. Since the motor uses a worn gear, you can’t back-drive it (and risk breaking something if you use much force). It might be best to get a roll of duck tape and clear polythene instead.
On the electrical side: I think it is fuse 41 which is the bottom left by the drivers right knee.
Other than that if you have a wiring break between the door and the a-pillar then you can try moving the door while operating the switch.

Correction: it’s NOT fuse 41 as I just tried pulling mine out and the window still works.

If you have tools with you, take the doorcard off (1 torx behind tweeter cover, 2 in the armrest), you can then remove the window motor that’s in the centre of the door panel, again only 3 torx acrews. This will allow you to raise the window glass by hand and then refit the motor to keep it in place.

It’s solid as a rock so I don’t want to force it. I’ll just have to pray I beat the rain home today and her in the garage before trying to sort tomorrow.

Thanks Steve. I do have the tools but not the time this morning. Need to clear the decks here, get home and ready for my last cricket match of the season at 1pm!

Let’s hope it’s not raining then. The whole procedure will only take about 5 minutes ?

The front door control modules occasionally suffer a total software crash. Removing and then reconnecting their power source solves the problem ...at least temporarily.

Yes it is worth a try to disconnect the battery. Both terminals, the touch the leads together to dissipate any residual power, then reconnect the terminals to the battery.

Window now shut using the battery disconnect method. Thanks for all your help A2 people, amazing as always. ?
