Mysterious Misfire

For weeks I've been trying to get my Lupo 3L ready for an MOT after replacing the head gasket. Booked an MOT, took it for a test drive on the way to the garage and it would misfire, so I would bring the car home and cancel the test. This happened three times. No fault codes. This week I changed the injector loom but that didn't make any difference. This morning I decided to give it a compression test, hoping that I would not have to remove the head again. Went to loosen the glow plugs and they were all loose! I must have done a compression test previously which decided cylinder head removal and then simply hand fitted the glow plugs for safe keeping.

I'll have to give my mechanic his P45. Oh, wait a minute......

Problem found and at least it will be running better now, unless you swapped to petrol to take advantage of the lower compression.:)

The CR is only 16:1, so not far above a petrol. Even with loose glow plugs, it idled surprisingly well!

Supprised you couldnt hear the compression excaping from the glow plugs but cant say i have ever tested this theory!
