Neat aux out plug under the ashtray

Following a recent fitting of a connects2 aux cable kit, i figured that i would hook it all up to a nice aux out socket to keep everything looking neat and tidy.

the connects2 cable i bought was the ctvadx001 from eBay (<£30) and it was simple enough to fit. Just remove the CD player with the keys, hook up the cable, and I fed the bulky connects box down the back console behind the dash so that it sits snug and doesn't bash about (see pic)

Next, i removed the cubby hole by using various techniques listed on this site. I favoured the method of making small fists inside the hole and wiggling my hands out till the unit sprung out at me.
With that out, I removed the ashtray by unscrewing the 2 torx screws and fed the 3.5mm jack down the back of everything so it dangled out underneath.

I purchased a neat 3.5mm aux socket from eBay for £6 and decided to install it in the vertical plastic panel underneath the ashtray. T remove this panel, i pryed up the chrome ring around the gear stick (it came off rather easily) and then lifted the whole plastic tray out.

Luckily, on the back of the tray, there was a hollowed out 'box' that alloed me to sit the back end of the aux socket in, so i drilled a 22mm hole in the tray, fitted the aux wicket, screwed it in to place then used a 99p 3.5mm coupler to join the cable to the cable from the connects box. Voila... A 'stock' looking auxillary jack point in the car.

Taking it one step further, i have now plugged a Bluetooth receiver in to the aux out jack so that I can play music via Bluetooth. All the links to the products i used are below. In total, it cost around £50... Which to me is pretty decent considering i now have a Bluetooth set up which is transferable (i had all this kit in my old twingo)

That's really neat, Drew. I'm considering fitting an XCarLink device, though primarily for the iPod interface. However, as it also has a 3.5mm socket, I think I'll consider doing something similar with one of those aux sockets. :)

By the way, technically speaking, it's an aux in, not an aux out, as audio is being fed into the connector.

Cheers,

Tom
