New A2 time - suspension dilemma!

Thanks Bret, I’ve found your comments particularly useful when reading other threads. I think people struggle with this because our view on stiffness is subjective; I think I am happy with a relatively stiff setup so long as there is control or wheel movement and body control I’m happy! For info I’m running the supertirismos with 205/50r16, I get a tiny bit of rub on full lock.

I’ll start a thread to ask for a ride on B6s!

In my case, if anyone remembers I originally put the question out there because I couldn't find a definitive answer for the easily-available aftermarket (and relatively cheaper) springs as to which corresponded most closely to the 6Q or 8Z spring part numbers listed on the 7zap parts numbers corresponding to the paint band codes for 1.4i vs 1.4tdi (at the time I was looking for springs for both my cars to refresh the front ends) - and the recommendations on some of the websites were both contradictory and confusing.

In the end I geeked out on various websites for a few days transcribing what information was available and then finding a way to compare springs pseudo-scientifically using an extrapolation of a relative spring rate constant with the information available. It isn't perfect, and it shouldn't be taken as law, but it suggested some general trends - and for our 1.4i the spring set I chose worked out beautifully. Other people then asked questions about similar rate springs but with greater ride heights for bad roads, so I extended the survey within the information available.

As Brett has said, for jurisdictions that are much more prescriptive about components on your car, the table should not be used, and for exact makes and model numbers, A2oc's definitive suspension parts thread is much more a go-to resource than my efforts.
