New A2

Hi All,

Following not much luck with my A2 1.6 FSI I decided to sell it for breaking. I Picked up another A2 1.6 FSI 2002 in silver from Bury, the car is in good condition however there are a few minor repairs to do. The seats are in very good condition, however I need to decide if I should swap the seats for my Blue Leather ones from the other car.

If the seats in the new car don't have lumbar support, I'd be keeping the blue leather ones, they're Sport seats aren't they? Your comfort is worth more than they'd sell for, even though that might be quite a pretty penny these days. You can set the lumbar on the seats while they're in the old car. If you do have to change the setting after putting them in the new car, you just need to temporarily connect two wires from the battery with 12v and earth, direct to the red connector under the seat. Oh and you may as well keep the blue armrest doorcards that match the seats too.

Thanks for the advice, it was pouring with rain yesterday when I looked at the car. Just been out to look at the bodywork is in great condition the rear offside wheel arch has had some can respray that looks a bit patchy. the front pull down / access door isn't catching properly so Ill have a look at that. Overall really pleased with the car. It has S-line on the side of the door trim and front access panel.

Someone's stuck some go-faster badges on it then :) There was never an S-line A2 in this country, but we can pretty soon work out what model you have got if you'll post some photos up.

Several ancient rules worth remembering. Don't buy them in the dark, not in the rain, not unseen and a number of others which I won't mention in polite company. Have been guilty of one or two in the past!

Happy hunting.

Had to take the car into the Garage, think its running on three cylinders. It ran well on the way home some 90 miles. It also looks like the light bulb has been taken out so no fault codes are visible . Just waiting to hear from the Garage, I've asked for a full service. May get to know tomorrow its a fingers crossed time again.

That was a very tongue in cheek remark surely.

Thanks Steve, I think its running on three at the moment. Im just looking forward to having it running as it should

No Problem Ill keep you updated on progress
Regards Ian
Don’t get any repair work done, until it's been scanned with a VAG specific scan tool, vcds ideally.
The FSI is not an engine to work on in the
"it might be ... so we'll change it and see"
school of mechanics. It'll cost you lots of pennies, and probably not fix anything. Scan, post the result here, and get advice on what to do next.
Mac.

Ooooops, sorry Ian.

Thanks Steve, I overlooked the FSI bit. Looks like I'm the fool, I thought they were all 3 cylinder, in our engine bay.
I never though that the FSI might be the old A3 or Golf engine.
It was neither actually. The FSI found in the A2 was a stand alone engine in the range was in my opinion not really ready for mainstream release.

The 4 cylinder in the 1.4 is the same as the earlier Polo/Fabia units.

I think the FSI engine was also in the Lupo and Golf.
Mac.
Edit: At least in part, the mainstream of the car servicing world was not ready for an engine that relied on computer based diagnostics. That was very much not the norm in the early noughties. The FSI has suffered as a result of mechanics, (and some owner's), (and owners), reluctance to even consider using diagnostic software, preferring either to change parts that are, (probably), not faulty, or ignore dash warning and drive until the engine gives up the unequal struggle.

From memory the FSI in the lupo was a 1.4 and the 1.6 FSI in the Golf was a different engine code...maybe not.

Etka for VW, shows the 1.6 FSI engine with several different B## codes in Golf and Bora, Touran, Passat, etc. Some are 110 HP, like the A2, others with an extra 5 HP. So, there were quite a few made, maybe not many left though.
This will be across all markets, not just UK.
This engine code list might help the engine swappers amongst us.
There's a 3.0 ltrs, 6 cylinder FSI, in the Touareg, imagine the power to weight ratio in an A2!

Very interesting reading about the various engines.
Just had a call from the garage a new coil pack fitted and service has been done however its still missing a little so should get it back Monday.

The plot thickens any help would be appreciated, the Garage rang and said there is a problem when the engine gets hot it miss fires. I was wondering if it could be a fuel problem?

Ask to see the results of the garage scan. Other wise have a full VCDS scan done on the car to try to reduce the "parts cannon" guessing.

They haven't done one I suspect.
May not be keen to work on the A2 FSI, even a quick glance on here would put them off, wouldn't it?
Is there anyone near Hull with vcds? No luck on the scan register.
