Hey everyone ,

I have just purchased my wife (me really) this vehicle, I've wanted this kettle car for a while in the 1.4 tdi variant, one turned up locally and had to have it.

Ok so I have a couple of questions ;
1. Any one near Southport I can befriend to get advise and help from or a good garage that know about the vehicle.
2. Buttons , yeap the aircon and light switch buttons, where can I get replacements, I've seen stickers you can buy , are they any good.
3. The car has 188k on the clock, I was wondering about getting a engine decarb, will it help ?
4. Air con not working, was going to take it to kwikfit for a test anything to look out for here .
5. I have a noise over the near side front wheel, I suspect a wheel bearing has it changes in tone with speed and when engine is disengaged , I still hear the noise.
6. Cambelt change, when should this be done, apparently it was done 5 years ago ?

If you do respond to this then thanks

Love the little car and I want to be apart of the community . I'm hoping the car is going to be a life long friend in our family

Welcome to this fantastic forum James.
Audi A2 is probably the best little car on the road in my opinion way ahead of its time.
There is always help at hand from the well knowlagable members here, just need to ask.
If you pay a £2.00 fee you will have acces to the market, where you can get lots of parts offered by members at very reasonable prices.
All the best with car.

Hi James,
If your sure it was 5 years ago it’s time is up as recommended interval is 5 years/60,000-80,000 miles I believe,
Manufacturing date may well be present on the surface of the belt.
Aircon panels come in 2 sizes,
single din & double din panels are quite expensive, A4 buttons of the same era can be swapped out relatively cheaply & are of the hard touch finish being more resilient to wear & tear.
Cheers
Keith.

Welcome aboard James, you're definitely in the right place :)

The good garage you are looking for is WOM Automotive near Uttoxeter/Stoke on Trent. Google will find it :) It's closer to you than it is to many of us that go there. Marcus knows the A2 inside and out, and his brother Rob who manages the operation is a member on here @chumsofmanutd. As has been said you're due a cambelt on age grounds but at that mileage it also makes sense to replace the oil pump/balancer shaft chain, tensioners and sprockets while the cambelt is off, as these do wear and failure is normally catastrophic for the engine.

The aircon not working could be a failed condenser or it could equally be a failed output temp sensor (G263) behind the dashboard, or indeed both. As a first step I would get it scanned by someone with the VCDS software which is specific to older VAG vehicles, this will diagnose G263 if it's an issue. KwikFit will definitely not find that, but there may be another member near you who could do a scan for you. If you post back up with all the VCDS findings you should receive plenty of specific advice.

Welcome,

There are a few members quite close to you who can provide a VCDS scan.

Hi James and welcome!
Take @Andrew advice, get it scanned asap, and before spending any money on it. Once you have a scan you will see what needs fixing, and what is the priority of each fault.
Get it serviced, oil, filter, etc, including can belt etc before you go far. Don't want to risk that engine.

After scanning, as suggested, clear all the fault codes and take it for a run before you re-scan to see what faults return.

Welcome aboard.

It wouldn't hurt to be in touch with WOM as mentioned. Get the cambelt and water pump done now, and ask them to look over the car and advise.
Cambelt failure does not bare contemplating.

Best of luck.
