New battery? Which type?

So how much for an original battery from Audi, and where is the best place to get one with a discount? How long is the warrantee? Didn't VAG use to provide a life time warrantee on their batteries (this was the case when I replaced the factory fitted battery on my 5 year-old VW Corrado and subsequently claim two further batteries off VAG before I sold the car - not bad for a £70 investment!). Interestingly the battery was dry charged and the acid provided in little bottles (one bottle for each cell). Once filled with acid there was enough charge on the plates to start the car and go! I really like the dry charge method as the plates are no sitting around on the shelf in an acidic enviroment. I wonder if they still do this now a days?

I think the dry charge system is universal nowdays

Thanks, and you would have though that the dry charge would be universal nowadays, but the two new batteries I purchased from my local MB dealership in 2008 would suggest that they were shipped from the factory to the warehouse 'wet' judging from the (undisturbed) warehouse stock stickers which covered the lids to the cells (making a refill by the dealer impossible).

Having had one MB factory fitted battery lasted over 10 years and another over 8 years, I see little point in buying after market batteries. My experience with VAG wasn't so good, but then the life time warrantee took care of the shorter life span.

life time warranty on batteries? That's brave! I probably should have gone for a dealer fit instead of fitting my own halford calcium with 4yr warranty.

Anyway, the new battery had been fine since installed. I haven't done long drives to charge it up since. But power steering is fine at parking speeds, starts everytime even at -2C. It is slightly smaller and a touch lighter than the OE Varta but fits rather well in the boot.
