I've just seen for the first time a photo of the new 5 series dash in this weeks AutoExpress.

What the hell is that?. It is disgusting!. Sorry, but it looks a mess and cheap.

Just to fussy for my liking, and the review says quality isn't upto usual BMW standards (whatever they are).

Steve - 2002 1.4SE petrol, Silver, black/black interior, Then an identical replacement 2003 A2. Now a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit

And that is a very flattering photo as well... when you see the it from the driver's side that iDrive screen is a deep and very ugly black hole staring at you all the time... Look at the A8's multi function screen: if you want it you can fold it out, if you don't want to stare at the temperature outside, the suspension settings or the sat-nav map you press a button and it folds away. Very neat! This thing... urgh... the rest is so-so. The window buttons on the door looks a real afterthought though and at a very strange angle...

The exterior I like though apart from the boot shutlines yet again. But the front is a very nice interpretation of BMW's new direction...

Good.
Soon all BM;s will look like this thanks to mR Chris Bungle (Bangle sorry!)
They are allegedly already reskinning the seven!

These Bangle Bungles are growing on me... I love the Z4. Mainly because it has proper boot shutlines on the side. Change that on the current 7, and the upcoming 5 and 6 and they will all look better. A shutline that goes from horisontal to vertical ALWAYS appears as if it is bigger than it actually is. Notice same effect with a Peugeot 307 bonnet shutline. Because it twists it looks wrong and like an inch wide black misaligned gap... something a panelbeater would do after a crash with a car that has a twisted chassis! Only sollution is to buy these cars in black and then having to wash it all the time!!!

The flame surfacing is great - notice the Z4 sides: the way the windscreen line goes through the side indicator repeater, the indicator also sitting behind the BMW roundell... brilliant.

Johann,

Totally agree!! Even though my head said buy one, my heart never agreed until the X5, latest 7, Z4 and now 5 series designs started appearing. Very tempting, however unfortunately soon to be very common.
