New injector needed

Just had to take my TDI in to Audi (Northants) because the engine management light had come on as well as the abs light and the engine was mis-firing and lacked power.

They have put it on to their diagnostic machine (£100.00 for the privelage:eek:) and have quoted £410 for a new injector and two and a half hours to fit:eek: The total bill comes to £891.00:eek::eek::eek:

I'm sure I read recently on here that Mike Skipton has said that changing an injector was a ten minute job. I queried this with the dealer who said "no it takes two and a half hours as the manifold has to come off.

Anyone else had this job done? if so, what did it cost you? I think I'm being well & truly shafted at nearly nine hundred pounds for a mis-fire.

Cheers,

Phil

I think them shafting you started when they charged you £100 for the diagnostic! unjustifiable that!

You should have asked on forum as someone (including me) would have helped you scan it for the faults.

As for the injector I can't help there I'm afraid as I haven't experienced this, and mine is Petrol.

In terms of pricing, they're actually slightly under (if that £410 includes VAT), as the exchange price is £461.

The 10 minute change I mentioned recently was the coil pack. In terms of labour, I'd say 2 hours was about right, as although only the cylinder head cover needs removing, the actual removal of the unit injector is very fiddly and the re-setting of the new one takes a little while.

It may be worth getting a quote from an idependant, as the killer factor is the hourly rate from Audi.

Cheers,

Mike

I would get a 2nd opinion from someone who has VAGCOM to pull the codes so you can see for yourself before going further - as mentioned above, a coilpack (a regular cause of misfires) is a 10-min job, injectors are a little more involved.

I've lost count of the number of people who've had coilpack failures on Audis, but I've personally never heard of a failed injector before.

Oops, apologies, I didn't spot you had a TDi, Spike is quite right, no coil packs on Diesel.

Contact these guys they are a Bosch approved service centre and they quoted me in the region of £250 for an injector + fitting.Very helpful as well:).Apparently there are 2 codes 1 identifies the harness and the other identifies the injector. The harness identifier code is spot on,I had it done about 2 weeks ago £132 total and no more probs with mis-fires etc(didn't need an injector)Bit cheaper than Audi at £590:mad:
