Hi all.New member here.
I've just purchased a 2000 A2 petrol with a siezed engine. It has the makings of a reasonable little motor. Being an Audi master's tech I always had a soft spot for them ,but we don't see them in the dealers anymore.
Just pulled the engine out and I've never seen so much red hermitite sealer used before ,it every where on every joint ,coolant flange and also blocking the oil pick up pipe which I think why it has thrown a rod through the block and sump.
Got a AUA engine from a Lupo not realising that the gearbox end mounting are different So I am after a good second hand motor if anybody has one going cheap in the Manchester area.

Welcome buddy.

There are usually a few engines with provenance available. One of the guys will be with you shortly I’m sure.

In the meantime - welcome to the group.

Welcome.

Couple of A2 AUA engines on eBay/Amazon roughly £350.

If you are not aware, Bullzbitz on eBay is well known to us as a specialist A2 breaker and is not cheap, but his feedback history suggests he often accepts offers. Prestige (well respected) have an AUA engine on Amazon.

Andy

Ref your Lupo engine, I thought there was an adaptor plate on the back of the block which could be swapped over from the A2

Cheers Spike

I have a BAD engine up here in North Wales (1hr away from you) which may have some of the brackets you need? Again, I'm not too sure if they are compatible, a more learned member will be along soon to confirm whether this is of any use or not.

Now therein would lie a true labour of love ...

Thanks for the welcome and comments guys.Currently watching about 6 on eBay,but will have to unload the Lupo engine first to restock the project funds. Apparently there are 2 types of AUA those with the starter at the rear (Lupo/polo) and a second version with the starter up front(A2) .

Well, finally ready to put my project back on the road, new engine fitted and all the bits sorted for the MOT.
Today phoned Churchill insurance to transfer my wife's Polo over to the A2,simply enough I thought but no.
The A2 is on a sorn and they won't transfer the insurance with a sorn in place?they tell me to remove the sorn.
The way to cancel the sorn is by taxing the vehicle for which I need INSURANCEand MOT. As I also need the MOT
I need insurance to drive it to a pre booked MOT first .I think they are wrong but have spoken to 2 people today at Churchill
And they're not for budging.Phoned DVLA and they confirmed to remove sorn i have to tax.
I think the only way round it is to take out a new policy and kick Churchill into touch.

Talk about catch 22. Just googled it and the way round it is

Either. Take out one day insurance with insurers who specialise in this kind of situation, eg. Tempcover.com who mention your SORN to MOT station, must be common, in fact thousands of SORN cars must be MOTed every year.

Or. Find an MOT station who will collect the car and drive it on their trade plates.

Andy

Edit. If temporary cover may be more economic to insure for say a week in case it fails.

Looked into the temp cover option ,but they want £40 a day.I think the only option is to cancel the polo policy and start again with a new policy from another company ,cheapest quote £234.As you say there must be hundreds of cars taken off sorn every day ,I think Churchill have got it wrong.

Ok as long as you make it clear car is currently SORN.

Got quote of ~£22 with day insure.com, not idle speculation as my project car is SORN and I will be in your boat at some point.

Finally got Churchill to see their error ,and have just covered the first 500mls in our ownership, E bay engine has a little piston slap when cold ,but I can live with that .It's only going to be doing 2000mls a year as my wife's car.Slowly working through the little issues G263 today ,just got to sort the door lock error faults now ,not causing any real issues but I do like a clear fault memory list and the drivers check strap that seems to have a rear extra long one fitted?
Question for the forum regulars,I ordered a Club window sticker but have not received it yet,I have no order notification just a PayPal confirmation is this normal?

Sorry for the delay on the sticker. Teresa is currently incapacitated through injury but I,m sure she will get one out to you as soon as.
