new member with problems

Hi i have just sold my focus st170 for my first a2 and i love it have got the 1.6fsi sport with leather cruise ect no aircon so far i am happy with it but the ns plug module has failed and has been changed and its running well but the yellow engine light is still on permanantly its an 04 plate so i was thinking does it store the fault and need to be reset via vagcom or is there something else wrong i have also filled it with 95 ron unleaded would it be better with 98 ron does any one in barnsley area have vg com that could help out thanks brett

my 1.4 also had faulty coils and yes we turned the light off with a vagcom, i'm also sure the fsi is a high octane motor.

Yes use high octane fuel, I use supermarket fuels and have had no problems. Using standard 95 ron fuel can lead to the engine feeling lumpy and not pulling so well. Some owners fill up with 95 ron every 3 or 4 times in between the high octane stuff without mishap.

Re engine warning lights, these can happen with the 1,6 fsi. They seem to be very sensitive but I've had mine for nearly 5 years now and you get used to it. Get yours VAGcomed and see if there are any underlying issues.

But it is a sweet engine when running right and the car is a hoot to drive.

I very rarely use the high octane stuff - the ECU soon re-calibrates the timing to the fuel. As Mark says, it will be a bit more lumpy at lower revs on the 95 - but since most of my miles are motorway, I'm doing what I can to save the pennies these days!

Check your coilpacks aren't the issue - these'll cause your engine management lights to come on. You'd usually know when one fails though due to misfires etc.

Ben
