First of all hello eveyone,I have just joined today and my name is Dave Garrett.I bought my A2 TDI SE eighteen months ago and in general have been very happy with it, however the following problems have occurred which might be of use to members
(1)A rubber hose came off, I think it was something to do with the turbo, the symptom was a total loss of power and excess smoke from the exhaust Audi roadside assistance fixed it in minutes,I would have done it myself but it is still under warranty it just needed the pipe putting back on and the jubilee clip tightening, a very long screwdriver is required (about a foot long)as it is around the back of the engine by the bulkhead.
(2)My open sky roof sticks on the few VERY REALLY HOT days of the year that we have, (it,s OK on normal warm days) ,it will tilt then give up,it will not go back and on one occasion would not close either till it cooled down,it has been looked at twice by the dealer each time it has been greased (I suspect it is down to something expanding). It is due to go back on the 19th of this month, I have been told that a jig bigger than the car is required to set it up and they said that "We have never done one of these before" (I am feeling like a very nervous guinea pig)I will let you know how I get on.The third and last problem is, has anyone noticed the rear number plate lights?, I recently went to open the boot and noticed the screws that hold them in had put slight cracks in all the lenses (about 1 millimetre), the second one from the right had crumbled completely around the screw and the light has come loose on one side almost falling out ,when I checked another A2 in a car park it was exactly the same, my car is just 2 years old.
bye for now Dave Garrett.

Everyone has had the same with the number plate lights... I tried to see what this Helga looked like that over tightens these screws when we were in the factory in May, but they hid her very well...

So far my Open Sky has been fine... even in the near 40 degrees we had last year in London...

Also had the screw problem. Its down to the screws being made on non-stainless steel. The screws get damp, rust forms, rust expands and cracks the lenses. I had my lenses changed but they used the same screws, so I expect it to happen again.

ah that explains it then... makes sense... I'm sure you can get proper stainless ones at Halfords or somewhere to replace the Audi ones.

Thanks for the info about the rear number plate light screws, I will mention it tomorrow to the dealer when it goes in to have the OPEN SKY roof seen to.

I had the opening roof panel problem. After greasing mine opened quietly for a while, then again started making expensive noises as the panels scraped against one another.

The glass panels are mounted in a frame which is screwed into the opening above the side windows and windscreen. If grease and adjustment of certain cables and the edge of the glass does not let the panels move easily then the headlining has to be taken down and the frame unscrewed and then re-placed in the opening with the jig, before re-screwing and retrimming. Not all dealers have such a frame and I understand there are only 2 or 3 in Greater London for instance. I was given an estimate for this job 6 months ago - £200+.

I recommend:
1. Never ever open or close the roof when the car is moving.
2. Be extremely fussy about the workings of your roof now you know yours has a problem. If it's not working 100% take it back under complaint. It has to be fitted to a tolerance of less than a millimetre (I saw the internal Audi service instructions.) Leaks because of poorly fitting panels are not uncommon, according to the german A2 owners site. And you cannot easily file down toughened glass to make it fit better, nor can you bend it slightly to improve the fit. It is completely right or completely wrong.

Yep, we've had the same problems with the Open Sky Roof.
Been into the dealer for lubricating 3 times now - damn annoying.
Did cause leaks initially, but has now been sorted, which included replacing the headlining throughout. This must have been with one of those jigs then? Millhouse Audi in Bath sorted ours, so if you need one of these jigs, its likely to be there in Bath.
We like the Roof, makes the cabin light and airey. Also, read on the forum here that the metal roof can be very noisy in the rain - had no concerns with this in our glass-topped car.
