New owner A2 1.4 SE (14 months on)

Morning A2er's

Finally jumped in (wife shakes head) as title invested in Silver SE petrol
  • 2002 88k on the clock
  • Service history to 62k no mention of Cam Belt one does say Life Service
  • Pano roof not working
  • Black interior
Going by the stuff I've already browsed through usual snags
  • Petrol flap button
  • Climate buttons worn
  • Gonna leave at that in risk of a jinx
Took a punt £550 battery was flat but thought the services history would be in my favour.
Seems to be the case.

Just ordered new drums, shoes, disc, and pads Eurocarparts Pagid £114 with their deal code.

Cambelt next!! Does anyone on here do the cambelts, or know anyone Chester way.

Welcome :) ;)

I have to say it’s nice to see recently lots of new members joining us on this wonderful forum and most important saving more A2’s :)

If you want to change your climate control I have one for sale at the moment for only £50 plus £5 postage it’s a hard touch unit so the buttons will never wear :);)

All I can recommend is WOM automotive as they know A2’s In and out but if you can’t go there just pick a VW/Audi specialist garage near you :)

For broken OSS (open sky) PM @Kleynie he’s your man :)

Have you got any pictures of your little low mileage A2 :);)

Welcome, stand by to be led astray by your A2. It will soon be crying out for friends and before you know it you will have more than one! They are addictive.
Come and join us on socials to meet other members. Car condition is irrelevant, and always help and advice on offer.

Hi there, welcome to the club, I bought a high mileage tdi90 in February and never looked back,, cheap tax/insurance/ good mpg,, thinking of another one for the other half, if I could give some good advice it would be if you have a problem the Members on here are your first point of call, not much can’t be sorted with all the expert advice here, do a search on here for tips and tricks it’s a good read, before you spend any money on new electronic parts or any parts “ research-research as there may be a no cost trick to sort it out, I wish you many happy miles.

Wow thanks everyone for the welcome.

I've had some tricky projects in the past, the Volvo 480 probably the worst of the bunch
I bought this for the wife, until recently I had the larger car for kids but job change has left me with a smaller car.

We bought a MPV (Touran) for my wife 2 scrapes, and driving into a parked car later (All fixed and shiny again) decided to get a cheap run around.
This one is a keeper for our son, may get a TDi the tax was £114 for the petrol

Photos later today

I'm not to far away from you (St Annes) and have just done an head swap on a 1.4 petrol A2 including timing belt and water pump, so I know what I'm doing and have the necessary alignment tools.
It would need to be in a few weekends time as I'm book up for the next couple of weekend, but happy to change the belts and water pump for you.
Drop me a PM if interested.
I can also offer you an exchange OSS fully refurbished on an exchange basis, including fitting if you are happy to lend an hand lifting the broken sky out and lifting the OSS back in. I have worked out the failure points and suitable repair parts such that the OSS works like it was originally intended too but better then original as the plastic parts which fail will have been replaced with brass ones

Cheers,
Paul

I don't have permission for that link ?‍♂️

I have a fuel release button in one of my for sale threads if you require one. Looks a nice genuine car.

You see to upgrade your account to see threads in the Market, the fee is just a one-off payment of £2. It's in the drop-down options on your username at the top of the page.

More things noticed today
  • Head lining sagging
  • Drivers door doesn't lock when all others do
  • Driver door stay / strap failed
  • Each side of spoiler damaged
  • Fuse cover missing
  • Alloys bit messy
  • Plastic needs repairs

I can sort out your door check strap, I refurbish them to better than Audi Std for £25 which is far less than an Audi original and will also last a lot longer
Drivers door is likely to be failed solder joints on the door lock, easy fix by reflowing the joints with leaded solder, other possibility is the micro switch as failed, but easily replaced

spoiler is part of the glass tail gate window, cheapest option is to replace the entire tail gate for a good used one
Alloys are easily refurbished and certainly a DIY job, or pay someone to powder coat them

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Amble-gamble
Welcome to the world of A2, see a head specialist ASAP! Had my 1.6 FSi Audi for many years and was about to send it to the scrap yard until I discovered this site. For me running and repair costs were becoming just too expensive. However, with the help of this site and the incredibly knowledgeable and generous members I have brought a socket set or 2 and a pair of overalls. Maybe I will be able to keep the A2 after all as they are really rather unique. A bit like their owners. Just hope over the following years I will be able to give something back to the site. Retired A2 owner in Dorset with bruised and bloody hands but smile on face and on the bottom rung of an exponential learning curve. Need to find out how to private message a fellow member so that the private information such as telephone numbers and addresses is not in open forum. Best of luck Steve. PS, Is yours a 1.6 or 1.4?

If you have sagging head lining you will almost certainly have water in the boot. The vents behind the rear bumper let water into the boot and the car fills with condensation which affects the glue on the roof material, hence it comes away and drops.

Thanks for the heads up Kleynie,

The boot is bone dry no signs of water marks or ingress ?
I guess the OSS worked up until a point and that is the root cause of the sagging.
It's only around the OSS, mind you there ain't much more headlining left after the OSS ?

We can fix the roof but you will need a new roof lining to fix that, or have it recovered in alcantara.
