New personal best MPG.

my mpg is not too good either this weather :( mines is showing just above 40mpg on dis, mines is mostly short journey school runs. i assume i need some parts to replace in order to improve mine but i will tackle that when winter has passed!

Mine's in the 65-70 mpg sort of area, lower than normal, but I've been running with the aircon for the last few months to get rid of moisture (most years I only turn on the aircon briefly once per tank to keep the seals good). Used the webasto a bit in early Nov before I flew out to Oz / Singapore, but haven't needed it since I got back.

My car is returning 35mpg as shown on dis...shocking and the worst I've had since owning a2. From a full tank and with just under quarter I've done 260 miles. So I'm not getting good economy at the moment. Partly due to weather and a/c on but should be getting better!!!

Last tank fill car achieved low 40's, lots of short journeys and cold mornings, disappointed to say the least, last week when i went to fill up i checked tyre pressures as i do every month and found passenger rear down to 18psi, changed said wheel over with my spare and over the last week mpg back up to what i expect this time of year with my driving style and conditions high 50's. worth a check cammy.;)

I'm still getting 60 odd mpg even with it being no warmer than 3 degreesmost mornings when leaving for work. I think switching to 15 inch steels for the winter has counter balanced the cold mornings.

tyres are all ok as i check them every few days due to a slow puncture on the rear drivers side! anyways im sure people have said to change a sensor or two but cant remember which but as soon as ive moved house and got settled in etc... i will spend some good money on my car getting everything fixed come spring :)

just wish a2 cars were here in scotland lol

This time of year aways reduces my MPG's with short journeys and the webasto running to get the car warmed up. But mine has still been in the mid 50's as i've changed jobs so travelling further for work so the car is warming up. Cammy Murdo is around your neck of the woods isn't he well in scotland's local so to speak lol;)

Cheers Phil

A faulty thermostat and or temp sensor can affect mpg. They are also quite cheap, so maybe worth changing.

Not that cheap if you buy from the dealer, but more expensive if you source from an auto parts seller, as you'll be back to the dealer to get a thermostat from them after 2-6 months...dealer only for a thermostat. I've learned that the hard way

See, I've sold the car but still here..... :)

If you are doing lots of short journeys in the cold that would be expected. I tend to do no or very few short journeys. While the engine is cold, the mpg is terrible.

I have a 1.4 petrol and it averages about 48mpg according to the dis, when on the motorway I do about 65-70mph with cruise control and can average between 50mpg.

17" 205/40/17's and a rear buckled wheel

If I could just jump in before anyone "blames" the 17" tyres, there is one important point.

The softer the tyre, the more the rolling resistance (just try pushing your car with even a slightly flat tyre).

The low profile of the 17s means a stiffer side wall and so less flex than a 16" tyre. Less flex is less rolling resistance which leads to a higher MPG.

The fact that the 17" set up is slightly wider may have a SLIGHT but almost unmeasurable reduction in MPG, far outweighed by the lower rolling resistance (on my car the 18" tyres seem to roll forever when I take my foot off the throttle).

So tyres definitely affect MPG but not always in the way you would imagine.
