Hi

im a mechanic but dont do any work on cars less than 10 years old.
i recently purchased an audi A2. 2 weeks after purchase while driving i turned the wheel to full lock and a warning light came on and the P/S stopped working. after turning off and on again it woked fine. next day i topped the P\S fluid up with the correct fluid from audi and a week later it hapened again. ( this is number one problem)

A week later the lights started fading when driving at low revs,.-alternator i decided but when running (with jump start) it was charging at 14.5v? ( second problem)

A few days later after a really cold morning it would not start even with jump cables, starter not even moving, even with a knock. ( final problem)

I KNOW THIS WOULD TAKE TIME FOR SOMEONE TO EXPLAIN WHAT I SHOULD DO TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. SO I AM OFFERING A £25 REWARD TO THE FIRST PERSON WHO PROVIDES A DECENT RESPONSE. SOME PEOPLE MIGHT THINK THIS IS CRAZY, BUT I THINK PAYING AUDI TO DO A 10 MIN INSPECTION AND CHARGING £65 IS CRAZY. I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE ON imoc.CO.UK AND GOT A GREAT RESPONSE, BEST RESPONSE WAS PAID £20. I WILL PAY VIA PAY PAL.

THANKS GUYS.

surely has to be knackered battery?

£25 virtual pounds needed...no need for real dosh.

Reason for saying this is next door neigbours fabia had power stearing that froze, this was the battery (7000 miles in 3 years = no charging = shagged battery).

If the battery is not dead then check the earth leads to the starter etc.
The power steering hydraulics are driven by an electric pump which takes a lot of current when working at full load - as it would on full lock. The power steering fault could and the starting problem could be both related to an earthing problem.

All advice is free on this site but a donation to club funds is always welcome

If you only had the power steering faults in isolation, I would suggest checking the connectors on top of the unit. This what my trouble turned out to be, when my power steering failed nearly 2 years ago. It took Stockport Audi nearly 2 months to track down the fault, which came back time after time.

With the other faults though, I think the previous suggestions should see you right.

Cheers,

Mike
