Just had 4 new Hankook Ventus Prime 195/50R16V 88 's fitted to the A2.
To replace the Michelins (Fitter said the rear ones were original - not bad @ 57K).

Got a good price from a local independant, who used stick on balance weights, and a torque wrench....all good signs. (He drives an A4 as well)

If anyone in the S Yorks area is interested, I can PM his name / number, but obviously don't want to post it direct, as it could be construed as Advertising.

Pretty good. We've only had it a few weeks, but so far so good. changing the tyres from well worn 185/50R16Vto new 195/50R16V's has made a world of difference to the ride comfort. I'm looking at chipping it, but the wife seems to think it's fast enough anyway.

Whereabouts in Sheffield are you?

We're Ridgeway area.

How long have you had your A2, and how is it going?

I'm up to 42k on the fronts!! I need a service in 1100 so I'll get them done then, think I need to do the front brakes too.

hi chaps

I thought when I did some calcs, 195x50x16 doesn't keep the same radius as the standard tyres?? someone maybe can clarify?
you can get 205x45x16's on, I've had these and still do, they keep proper rolling radius for the original fitment.

If you have bad wheel balancing in sheffield, I recommend the old chap "george" just off mowbray street, next to bubbles carwash. Now't fancy, but I'm very picky about balancing, and he fixed mine a treat.

My dunlop sp9000's did 53,000, the A2 is good for tyre wear.

I work in sheff.

No you read me wrong, I got excellent service in Sheffield.
The balancing was first class, and the fact that they used a torque wrench to re-tighten the bolts is very good, most quick fit type places just buzz them up with the air wrench.
You're right the rolling diameter of the wheels does increase when moving up to 195/50R16, but not by much, and having tracked the car with my GPS, the speedo was over-reading anyway. The increase in diameter on the wheels actually removes this over compensation on the speedo, and gets it spot on (well as near as damn it) :)
Plus the little extra in the sidewalls (plus extra tread) gives a slightly more compliant ride.

I Had the front Michelins replaced today, 47693 miles old! Not too bad I think esp as it has been chipped since I bought it with 31000 miles on at the end of February. I have put on the Kumho Ecsta at £100 a pair.

I've fitted 185/65-15 as winter tires, that's thick rubber! I'll use a GPS next time I put them on to see how much the speedo is off.

If you do want it chipping I can reccommend Simon Coe of CCCTECH, he did mine a few months ago and it's like having a new car only a lot cheaper, he will also 'unchip' it when you come to sell for a nominal fee,
