Hi all,
Im ready for new tyres, definately front two and maybe will also do back two this week. Current tyres are Dunlop SP9000.
How do these tyres rate? Are there better ones?
The front two were replaced two years ago @£61 each.
Derby Audi are currently quoting £98.41 each !!!
Thanks,
Heather

Heather,
Tyre prices have indead increased by as much as 30-40% due to the increased costs of raw materials over the past 18 months or so, try a site like mytyres.co.uk or blackcircles.co.uk, these will give you a honest idea of the true pricing, they both offer a firring service at a local fitter.
cheers

I normally go to Inner Ring Tyres at Derby, they provide a quality service and are usually very competitive. It might be worth giving them a try - 01332 345515.

I wouldn't normally get tyres from an Audi dealer but I had to have a replacement fitted at Derby Audi recently and they charged me £64 for a Kuhmo - could have been worse and from reports I have read they are a good tyre.

Hi Heather
I always star with the mytyres web site as Mike suggested. Once you have selected the tyre size and speed rating, the list of available brands usually gives tyre test results so features like grip, niose and comfort can be compared. There are very few options available in the standard SE size of 185/50 /16 so if you are buying 4, also consider 195/50/16's which has a negligible increase in rolling radius (and speedo accuracy)
Once you know what you want, ring round your local depots and compare prices

I have the SE wheels and SP9000s for 3yrs. These are good tyres wet/dry/durability and I don't mind using them again. They have just usable kerb protection which is good. I would also take Spike's gret suggestion to size up to 195/50. It will give a little more rubber to improve the ride comfort and they are a fair bit cheaper than 185/50 of the same tyre for a start!

Definitely start with the websites others suggested, I've used mytyres before, no problem.

heather I paid £80 each with everything included, for SP9000's.
From National, they did a price match.

These tyres are great, These are my 3rd set. 133k!

If you struggle getting the 185 size, you can fit 205 x 45 x 16 ZR Dunlop SP9000's. With this size they have great kerb protection.
I don't think the 195 width keeps the correct rolling radius, where as the the 205 size does.

Hi Heather
BBA is correct but the 195/50 tyre (compared to 185's) only makes around 1.5% difference to the tyre diameter and this would not put me off buying this size. In real terms this will make the speedo read approx 0.5 mph slow at 30 and 1mph slow at 70. As speedo's ofter read up to 5% fast, the larger tyres could even make it more accurate.

Cheers Spike

ive just got a set of 205/45/16 tyres. I was a bit unsure as to what to do due to the varing coments from various tyre fitters. Had them for nearly a week now and there noticbly better than the original size. Despite comments from some of the tyre fitters i went to the do not rub

heather, have a look at the attached site

http://www.tyresite.com/product.asp?P_ID=5

I have bought both 205 45 16 and 205 40 17 from them, uniroyal,
This tyre is both one of the best performing tyres in the wet (see the tests) and is a continental family brand. in my experince they are excellent and a great price on this site

regards
Glen
